Confirmed: Here is why PassionAir has suspended its services to Ho

0

BY: KALD | Voltaonlinegh.com |

Domestic airline operator, PassionAir has announced an indefinite suspension of flight services to the Ho Airport.

The suspension, which takes effect from Friday, March 25, 2022, according to the company was due to a number of operational challenges including, the ‘extremely low patronage’ of its service in the Volta region.

A letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer of PassionAir, Duncan Sambu, and  sighted by Volta Online, also mentioned the increasing cost of fuel, the depreciation of the cedi against the US Dollar, and a requirement from the Ghana Airport Company Ltd for the airline to build an operational office in Ho,  as other reasons for the suspension of their operations.

He however noted that, ‘these challenges are being evaluated by the airline to ascertain the way forward.’

The letter announcing the suspension of flight services to Ho

The letter also directed media houses in the Region airing the radio commercials of the airline to suspend them with immediate effect.

PassionAir was the first to begin commercial operations to the Ho Airport in December, 2021.

With an initial fare of Ghc209, the airline plied the the Ho route twice weekly – Fridays and Sundays.
The fare was later reduced to Ghc150, but that seem not to have still attracted the expected passenger numbers, as Volta Online understands, some of their flights had less than ten passengers at a point in time.

Regarding the status of the about ten staff employed by the airline at the Ho station, Volta Online has gathered that, those staff would be given the option of being reassigned to other operational stations of PassionAir accross the country.

KALD | Voltaonlinegh.com |

Following government’s delay in the payment of allowances to national service personnel accross the country, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced the donation of his two months salary to those in his district.

Making the announcement in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Mr. Ablakwa said, he donated his entire salary for January and February, 2022 to the North Tongu District Office of the National Service Scheme, as his modest contribution to cushion the 87 young graduates serving in the constituency, but have not been paid for almost three months.

While, indicating the onward transfer of the funds to the beneficiaries by the district NSS office, the MP also appealed to government to speed up processes to pay all accumulated arrears due the service personnel in the country.

Below is the full post of the MP

” Earlier today I donated my entire two-month salary as MP (January and February 2022) to the North Tongu National Service Scheme District Office as my modest contribution to help cushion the 87 national service personnel posted to my beloved constituency who have not received their allowances from government for some three months.

The Scheme’s Director informs me all personnel have now received their direct MoMo transfers.

I really wish I was in the position to do more to alleviate the plight of these dedicated personnel who gladly agreed to serve their country in my largely rural holy district.

May I appeal to government to expedite action in paying all accumulated arrears owed our gallant but vulnerable national service personnel. In all sincerity, the paltry allowances of national service personnel shouldn’t be left out anytime monthly wages of public sector workers are processed for payment. “

Meanwhile, the National Service Secretariat has announced the payment of January allowances to personnel later on Tuesday.

In a release, the leadership of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) has urged their members to access the payment via their e-zwich cards at the nearest payment point.

The three – Godsway Sedofia 19, Seraphim Torgbor 18, and Destiny Adzakpo 18, were slapped with 20 years each imprisonment with hard labour, after being found guilty by the Sogakope Circuit Court presided over by His Lordship Isaac Addo on Friday, March 18, 2022.

A fourth suspect, Robert Sedofia, who is said to  the gang leader is however still on the run.

Police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Seidu Kodua,  told the court, the accused persons on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, robbed a motorbike rider of  his bike with registration number M-21-VR 3225 at gunpoint. This was after Godsway Sedofia hired the services of the rider from the Akatsi central market to  Atidzive.

‘On reaching a section of the road, the suspect ordered the rider to stop, pointing a pistol at him, and with the assistance of his accomplices Destiny Adzakpo and Robert Sedofia(the gang leader), who had laid an ambush in a nearby bush,  robbed the victim of his Haojue motorbike with registration number M-21- VR 3225 and a crash helmet,’ the court heard.

The victim, later informed his friends who are also motorbike riders to lookout for his bike. Shortly, the victim had a tip-off that Godsway Sedofia and Seraphim Torgbor were seen on a motorbike speeding through Glikpome town near Atidzive. The victim and his friends proceeded to the house of Godsway Sedofia and got him arrested in his room at Glikpome with the crash helmet in his possession.

Veep Bawumia Inaugurates two new drone delivery centres to extend services to Volta, Eastern and Oti

BY: Vivian Dzoboku I Voltaonlinegh.com |

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has inaugurated two Zipline Distribution Centres in Anum and Kete Krachi in the Eastern and Oti Regions respectively.

The commissioning, which was done concurrently on Monday, brings to six, the number of medical drone distribution centers constructed in the country. The two new ones will serve about 250 health facilities in Volta, Oti and parts of the Eastern regions.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Nyagbo Sroe in the Afadzato South district, where a test drone delivery was received, Dr. said the event was another giant step towards the overall improvement of healthcare delivery in the country.

The community – 750 metres above sea level, was specifically chosen because “we want to have a feel of how the Zipline technology is able to directly deliver to the last mile, making way for the equitable distribution of medical supplies to all parts of the country,” the Vice President said.

He disclosed that, though the project met a lot of skepticism, with perseverance, the country has moved from a single distribution centre to five more distribution centres, delivering medical supplies to over 2000 health facilities and saving millions of lives.

“My understanding is that close to 1 million COVID-19 vaccines, as well as 4 million routine vaccines, have so far been distributed by Zipline to many health facilities across the country. This is no doubt the contributing factor, for which reason we have not experienced massive expiries of the vaccines as happened in many other countries”, he said.

According to the Vice President, Ghana is the only country in the world to use drones to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to dozens of centres with the hope of ensuring that all citizens get the opportunity to be vaccinated. As a result, the “Covid-19 case as of yesterday was only 79.”
He further noted that one of the features of the Zipline centres is their storage facilities, as Ghana was one of the five countries in Africa to receive the Pfizer vaccine because of the storage temperature required.

He further added that the health sector remains an essential part of shaping the economic growth of the country, and that “how we are able to improve life expectancy and keep a nation healthy to increase our workforce, drive economic growth, development and prosperity requires a lot of health investments” and cautioned all to desist from incessant politicisation on issues pertaining to the health of citizens.

The General Manager of Zipline Ghana, Madam Naa Yawson, noted that since the first distribution center was commissioned in April, 2019, over 1.7 million medical commodities, including essential medicines and vaccines, have been distributed to over 2300 health facilities across 147 districts in 13 regions. Approximately 60 percent of these health facilities are mostly health centres and CHPS compounds are located in rural and some of the hardest to reach areas in Ghana.

She noted the two new centers will serve about 70 percent of the Volta region, 95 percent of Oti and all the hard-to-reach communities along the Volta Lake and Afram Plains. Furthermore, close to two hundred thousand units of critical medical products from the Anum and Kete Krachi sites have already been distributed since operations commenced in December last year.

Torgbe Owusu, representing the Paramount Chief of the Nyagbo Traditional Area, Torgbui Ashui Nyagasi V, welcomed the drone service and noted the Zipline technology will save the lives of Nyagbo Sroe and its adjourning communities, but called on the government to fast track the road’s construction for easy assessment of the Nyagbo communities.

In April 2019, President Akufo-Addo announced the opening of a Zipline distribution center in Ghana. The distribution centers opened earlier include Omenako in the Eastern region, Mpanya in the Ashanti region, Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North region, and Vobsi near Walewale in the North East region.
