The Ho Municipal Assembly, in partnership with the Volta Regional Environmental Health and Sanitation Ladies Association (ENVIRON LADIES), has organised a major clean-up exercise across the Ho Municipality to promote environmental cleanliness and improve public health.
The exercise, held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, attracted residents, women’s groups, religious organisations, security personnel, schools, political groups, public and private institutions, and other stakeholders.
Participants carried out sweeping, weeding, waste collection, drain clearing, and other sanitation activities at various locations within the municipality.
Areas covered included the Guinness/Coca-Cola Depot to Sky Plus Hotel Junction stretch, ECG-Lokoe-UHAS Junction corridor, Ahoe Roundabout to the Power House, and the Alinco Filling Station-Zongo to Market stretch.
The exercise also covered the Guinness/Coca-Cola Depot to Star Oil Filling Station corridor at Lokoe, Kpenoe Junction to Zongo Junction, as well as the Ho Market and Lorry Station.
The NDC Women’s Wing was assigned to the Ho Market and Lorry Station, where members participated in cleaning activities within the busy commercial areas.
Speaking to Firdaws Adam, the Ho Central Constituency Women’s Organizer of the NDC, Margaret Dzogbewu, commended the various individuals and groups who participated in the exercise.
She urged market women and residents across the Ho Municipality to take an active interest in future sanitation exercises, noting that maintaining a clean environment requires the collective commitment of residents.
Personnel of the 66 Artillery Regiment, the Ho Municipal Assembly’s Environmental Health and Sanitation team, religious organisations, political party women’s groups, financial institutions, schools, and other institutions also took part in the exercise.
Public and private schools in the municipality had earlier been encouraged to undertake cleaning, weeding, and beautification activities around their premises as part of the sanitation campaign.
Traditional leaders and Assembly Members also contributed to the exercise by mobilising residents in their respective communities.
The clean-up forms part of efforts to promote environmental responsibility and encourage greater public participation in maintaining clean and healthy communities.
The exercise is also timely as Ho prepares to host several activities associated with the Asogli Yam Festival, with stakeholders stressing the importance of keeping the municipality clean and attractive for residents and visitors.
Stakeholders have called for sustained commitment to sanitation beyond the exercise, urging households, businesses, institutions, and residents to make environmental cleanliness a continuous responsibility.
