Ho: Customers stranded as LPG Retailers join Nationwide Strike

1
Notices of 'No Gas' greeted consumers at the various retail stations

Consumers of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the Ho municipality were tuned away as LPG retailers in the Volta Regional capital closed down their facilities to join the nationwide strike in protest of the government’s Cylinder Re-circulation Model (CRM) policy.

Both domestic and commercial users of the commodity were left stranded at most LPG vending stations on Monday as the pump attendants vacated from their post.

A visit to some retailing points in the city, such as Kings Gas, Top Gas, Petro bay and Akoefe Point by this Voltaonlinegh.com reporter saw notices with inscription, “NO GAS”.

The strike which was declared by the Ghana LPG Operators Association (GLiPGOA) on Monday 21 May, saw some daily consumers mostly taxi Drivers parked their vehicles over the unavailability of the product for their operations.

Some taxi drivers expressed their frustrations to Voltaonlinegh.com about the situation and said, “Most taxis in this town now uses gas, we are no more using petrol so if they stop selling we will suffer.”

“It will affect our business, if they will not sell gas to drivers the workers too will suffer, we all we will suffer” another stressed.

However, the regional Chairman of GLiPGOA, Mr. Kateh Kumodzi insisted that, the cylinder Recirculation policy if implemented will affect businesses of their members.

According to him, the over 62 LPG retailing points across the Volta Region are all in full support of the industrial action to put pressure on  government to scrap the CRM policy; adding that, their action till continue till further notice.

Football: How Volta Region Players Perform over the Weekend

0
Goalkeepers, Gabriel Nudakpa (In black) & Stephen Ahorlu

It was an electrifying week for Volta players. Player performances have been exceedingly great over the weekend with few making their debut for new clubs whiles others chalked new accomplishment.

As a Writer/Spots Journalist from the region, I seek to Follow, Monitor and Expose their exploits to the world. This week, our featured players are Michael Agbekpornu Aquah, Sylvester Smith Adjetey and Emmanuel Paga.

Michael Agbekpornu Aquah is a 20 year old defender who currently plays for Danbort Fc. He joined them from Ho Dynamo Fc where he was adjudged the player of the season. Aquah’s ability to play various positions on the field of play makes him a utility player. For those who come from Ho and follow the Senior High School Football in SPACO, will always remember him for his ability to hold firm onto the ball and dribble pass his opponents and aim for goal. Aquah is an embodiment of a complete player as he combines both left and right foot with same power, precision and accuracy. He is a talent emerging from the region. Remember this name.

Danbort FC Duo-Michael Agbekpornu Aquah & Sylvester Smith Adjetey

Sylvester Smith Adjetey is a box to box midfielder. Adjetey as he is popularly called is a household name here in the regional capital Ho. His ability to take charge of the midfield draws my admiration with the nickname “The General”. Adjetey is 21 years old and already had a stint in the National Division One league with Ho Dynamo until his move to Danbort. He combines effectively with his partners in the midfield and very compulsive in his deliveries.  If there is anyone to be seen in him then it’s either Andrea Pirlo or Andres Iniesta.

Both Aquah and Adjetey debuted for their new club Danbort Fc in the national division one league and lasted the entire 90 minutes. Danbort FC captured them to aid their campaign in ongoing National Division One League. They joined from former Division One side Ho Dynamo FC on an undisclosed fee. Meanwhile Massawudu Inusah was in the post and played full interval as Danbort FC inflicted a painful 1-0 win over Amidaus professional.

Emmanuel Paga is the real definition of a good striker in the making. The sensational teenage currently plays for Dallas Fc in the USA. He was a former player of Nadm Sc in Hohoe. His exploits were very much visible in the local league before his departure to the states. Emmanuel exploits and progression is a dream we must chase and see come true. He is just 18 years old.

Emmanuel Paga, Dallass FC USA

AUSTRIA

David Atanga was named in the starting 11, scored for St Polten in their 2-0 win over Austria Vienna.

BELGIUM

Bernard Yao Kumordzi was again absent in KV Kortrijk 3-1 away win to Waaslans Beyern. The 33 year old missed the game through injury.

Elton Acolatse was not part of Sint Truiden squad that drew 1-1 with KSC Lokeren.

Francis Amuzu was introduced in the second half for Anderlecht in 2-1 their defeat to KRC

ICELAND

Manuel Eli Keke missed Olafsvik 1-0 defeat at Magni through suspension.

KAZAKHSTAN

Patrick Twumasi lasted full throttle for Astana FC in their 3-1 win over Aktobe.

David Mawutor lasted 90 minutes for Zhetysu Taldykorgan in their 2-0 loss at Akzhayik.

PORTUGAL

Lumor Agbenyenu was an unused substitute for Sporting Lisbon as they were beaten 2-1 by Aves in the Portugal Taca final.

TURKEY

Joseph Attamah warmed the bench again for Istanbul Basaksehir in their 3-2 win over Kasimpasa.

USA

Gladson Awako was taken off in the 54th minute for losing side Phoenix Rising in their 3-1 home defeat to Sacramento Republic.

Emmanuel Twumasi was not part of Fc Dallas team that drew 2-2 with Vancouver Whitecaps.

Former Hohoe Nadm Sc Player Emmanueal Paga was introduced on the 65th minutes as his side Dallas Fc U18 beat Colorado raptors 3-2. The slippery striker was in his usual devastating form in USA.

Denmark

FC Nordjaelland Godsway Donyoh began the game and lasted for 88 minutes in his sides 0-0 draw against FC Copenhagen.

Sweden

Patrick Kpozo might be in action for Oestersunds on Wednesday against IK Sirius.

France

Sochaux Goalie Lawrence Ati-Zigi’s season is over in France.

Belarus

There was no club action for Dinamo Brest midfielder Saliw Babawo, as he is currently with the national U20 camp in Ghana. He was a substitute in Ghana’s second leg 2-0 win against Algeria.

In other Ghanaian National Division One games;

Richard Dzikoe started the game for Kotoku Royals and lasted the entire of the game .The Sensational Striker was once again on the score sheet as Kotoku Royals record a 1-0 wins over Accra Lions. This brings his goal tally to 9 goals this season. Attacking winger Stephen Kofi Nargy played 90 minutes. Selorm Klutse however watched the game from the bench.

Kpando Heart of Lions continues their winning habits as they dazed pass Nania Fc. Goalkeeper Gabriel Nudakpa, Musah Amevor, Charles Quarcoo, Abednego Sarfo, all started for Hearts of Lions at the Kpando Park. Charles Quarcoo scored the only goal of the match on the 87th minutes to secure all 3 points. Eric Esso started from the bench and was introduced on the 65th minutes. Gordon Akaminko watched the game from the bench as unused substitute. Meanwhile youth graduate Samuel Agbenyega did not make the squad. Dickson Sakabutu was not part of the match day squad as he serves a 4 match suspension after receiving a red card in their game against Great Olympics.

Tema Youth caused another upset when they beat league leader’s Uncle T 3-1. The defeat brings a reduction in the point difference between Uncle T and second place Lions to just a point. There was no action for Uncle T Striker Wisdom Attamah as he focuses on his tertiary exams.

Bright Hadzo who currently plays for Wa Suntaa Sporting Club was absent in their defeat at Bofoakwa Tano. Suntaa Sc lost 1-0. Even with the lost the goalie, still maintain his clean sheet this season. He is expected to feature in their next game.

Daniel Aklamanu kept the post for Nania FC in their 1-0 lost at the Kpando Park on Sunday. The former Kpeve Lake United keeper has been so impressive this season. There was no action for striker Perry Teh Agbo as he continues his recovery process.

Goalkeeper Nii Armah Okai kept the post for Unity Fc in their 2-0 lost to Techiman City. Ericson Adjogah was also a starter in that game. Both players joined Unity Fc from Hohoe Nadm Sc.

Julius Brempong Ankamah was named in Accra Young Wise starting team. He lasted 80 minutes as Young Wise drew 0-0 with Sporting Mirren at the Zaytuna Park in Kasoa.

Richard Amoah, Fia Patrick and Benedict Wobenu were starters for Accra Lions in their away trip to Akim Oda to face Kotoku Royals. All players lasted the entire game in their slim lost. Kotoku Royals won the game by 1-0.

Ali Idrissu missed Agbozume Weavers 3-0 thrashing in the hands of Tudu Mighty Jets. The Agbozume lads didn’t get their tunes to dance to at the Teshie Mats Park. The result has cruelly left Weavers rooted at the tail of the table.

Vision Fc skipper and defender Wisdom Ameded stared and lasted the entire duration of the game as they held Accra Great Olympics to a 0-0 drawn game. There was no action for goalkeeper Melike Dzado as he nurses an injury.

Left winger Julius Anani aka Messi stared for Proud United in their 2-1 win over Venomous Vipers Fc. The midfielder played full game and provided an assist in the game ensuring the victory was definite. Asare Saviour played a holding midfield role and played full match for Proud United. Both are Former Ho Hunters FC player.

The Ghana premier league resumes this midweek.

These are the players I kept my eyes on; help me discover other guys from the region making it big in football.

‘Oti’ Region Movement holds first Rally at Jasikan

0

The capital of Buem, Jasikan went agog over the weekend as it hosted the first Oti Region Rally on Saturday.

The event saw thousands of people from Buem and other Oti areas walk through the streets of Jasikan with placards before converging at the rally grounds.

Some of the placards read: “Oti for Development, 100 per cent YES Votes for Oti, We don’t want Hohoe in Oti Region.”

The rally, which took place at the Jasikan R.C. Park, saw chiefs, queen mothers, political and religious leaders and interest groups of the area attending.

In his welcome address, the Acting Buemhene, Nana Opraw Akuamoah VIII, acknowledged the numerous challenges faced by natives and residents of Oti in the lead up to the creation of the new region and called for perseverance from all until the dream is realised.

The Chairman of the Joint Consultative Committee, Krachiwura Nana Mprah Besemuna II officially announced the death of Dr. Kwaku Addeah, Secretary to the Joint Consultative Committee and expressed optimism that his death will reinforce energies in the realization of Oti Region.

He added that the best befitting burial for Dr. Addeah is the creation of the Oti Region.

Mr. Martin Akotey, the Director of Research of the Joint Consultative Committee who outlined the geo-political, social and demographic characteristics of Oti said the people of Hohoe have never been interested and involved in the over 50 year struggle for the creation of Oti Region.

He recapped that Hohoe in the pre-independence era of Ghana, voted against the efforts to add Trans Volta Togoland to Ghana.

He therefore called on all to reject Hohoe’s attempt to be included in the Oti Region and noted that Oti was poised to deliver a 100 per cent YES votes in the upcoming referendum.

In his solidarity message, the President of the Tongu Youth Association Mr. Prince Tetteh said the support of Tongu Youth is borne out of the fact that there is a large population of Tongu natives in the Oti area, who equally suffer the negative effects of under development of the area.

“A better life for Oti Region means a better life for Tongu Settlers in Oti” he said and therefore urged the government not to relent in its efforts at creating the Oti Region.

The Amankrado of Jasikan, Mr. Samuel Duedu donated a Land Rover vehicle to the Jasikan District Organizing Committee of the Oti Region. Receiving the vehicle, Asafoatse Obeng Akyea, the Chairman of the District Organizing Committee expressed his gratitude and promised that it will be put to good use for the good cause of the region.

The next rally will be held at a yet to be determined district.

Women’s Football: Ampem Darkoa debunks Claims by WLB Chair

0
Princella Adubea

President of Ampem Darkoa Ladies Football Club, Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour, has refuted claims made earlier by the Women’s League Board Chairperson Leanier Ebo Addy, that their striker, Princella Adubea has been called by the Ghana Football Association and the Sports Ministry for surgery and has refused.

Linear, who spoke to Happy Sports last week on the injury concerns of the Women’s League top scorer, claims Adubea has not made herself available to Doctors and that the striker is giving excuses of being with the father.

In a rather sharp rebuttal, Nana Gyeabour, owner of the Techiman based club has come out to debunk statements made by the Black Queens Management Committee Chair, saying that Adubea has never been called for an operation and she refused. He was clear on the fact that, the FA says the ministry is doing everything possible to provide money for the surgery after 2 separate reviews were conducted on the level of injury.

“No one has called Adubea for Operation and she has refused. She was called for review weeks ago and on 2 occasions, which she went. The U-20 Management Committee Chairman, who called her for the surgery told her to hold on till she is called finally for the operation, and nothing more. The Fa says they have sent budget to the Ministry and awaiting, so why should Leanier say Adubea hasn’t made herself available. The team is to be contacted with regards to Adubea’s football career and not the parents.”

Nana further explained the circumstances leading to the attacker’s troubling Knee ligament injury and its current state in an interview with TalksenseSports.

“Adubea got injured in the league finals against Hasaacas 2 seasons ago but recovered from injury and joined the U-20 team to PNG where the injury resurfaced after a trial match with a male team, of which she scored the only goal. Her injury worries hindered her performance at the World cup.

“Back in Ghana, she was treated and she went all out to perform well and won the goal queen accolade for both the Sanford Fa cup and the league for the 2016/2017 season. She continued to play for the Princesses in the world cup qualification and was joint top scorer with a Nigerian player. She has not played this season for the club due to her injury” He added.

Princella Adubea has achieved a lot in Women’s Football and with the Nana Mma. She joined the two time winners of the National Women’s league in 2014 and has since been a national asset, as she played for the Maidens in 2014.

However, the current claims by the Women’s League Board Chairperson was to explain reasons why she was left out in the current U-20 call up by Head Coach Yusif Basigi for preparations to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in France and the efforts by the Fa to improve on her injury concerns. It is assumed, that the hard hitting striker has dropped in form due to her reoccurring injury which has seen her on the sidelines this season.

Princella Adubea, was adjudged the Best female football at the 43rd Mtn swag Awards in May and has tremendously contributed to the successes of the female Under 20 national team as well as the Black Maidens.

Meanwhile, a 31 man-squad (local) and 6 foreign based players, named by Coach Basigi are to report at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram at 4pm on Monday, May 21, 2018.

Ghana will open her World Cup campaign against host France in Group A, on August 5. They’ll latter play Netherlands and New Zealand.By: Davis Nii Attuquaye Clottey/Voltaonlinegh.com

GHS Debunks Ebola Outbreak in Ghana

0

Ghana Health Service (GHS) has debunked claims of an outbreak of Ebola in the country and asked the citizenry to disregard reports circulating on various social media platforms suggesting that there is an outbreak of the disease and the Health Authorities are trying to suppress the information.

The social media reports purporting an outbreak in the country follow recent reports of an outbreak in north-western city of Mbandaka in Democratic Republic of Congo in which at least 45 people were believed to have been infected and 25 deaths being investigated.

The Service in a release signed by Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Director General of Ghana Health Service on May 21, 2018 assured the public that there is no outbreak of Ebola in the country.

It said Ghana is free of Ebola and the Service would be the first to inform Ghanaians in case there is any evidence of the disease.

“We want to state emphatically that the report is false and misleading and that there is no such incidence of Ebola in Ghana. Ebola is a highly infectious condition such that when there is an outbreak in a community there is no way the National Health System can keep it secret from the public. The Health System is part of the global community and mandated by International Health Regulation to report all such conditions if they occur.”

The release allayed fears of the outbreak here in Ghana and indicated, “surveillance system has been intensified including the Points of Entries to detect any case should it occur.”

Ebola is an infectious illness that causes internal bleeding and often proves fatal and can spread rapidly through contact with small amounts of bodily fluid, and its early flu-like symptoms are not always obvious.

Ebola was discovered in 1976 near the Ebola River in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since then, the virus has emerged periodically from its natural reservoir (which remains unknown) and infected people in several African countries with latest outbreak ending in 2016.

Ho Harlem Falls to ‘After 7’ in Basketball Friendly

0

Ho Harlem Basketball Club has failed to clinch a home win against After 7 Basketball Club from Cantonments in a match played at the Ho Sports Stadium on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

The host, who had to merge both old and new players to play their guests, lost 53-55. The game really saw skills, tactics and wonderful throws within the 4 quarters.

The guests, being a swift attacking side, with excellent fast breaks got the first basket and were leading 15-10 at the end of the first quarter. Ho Harlem gave After 7 a good response in the second quarter, reducing their deficit to two (2) at 28-26. The visitors had to stretch the home side again in the third quarter with 6 points but Harlem fought back to reduce the points.

After 7 continued their dominance in the last quarter but signs of fatigue saw Ho Harlem fight really hard to end the game at 55-53.

The game between old Harlem and the current Harlem players ended 65-43 in favor of the latter. The curtain raiser sort of game saw the current players punish the oldies with pace and strength.

Another game was played between the Current Harlem players against a new set of After 7, which ended 35-31 for the home side. This match saw new set of Ho Harlem players and it concluded the day’s activities. It was however not much different from the main friendly game of the day.

Head Coach and player of the Oldies, Charles Gomadonku, spoke to TalksenseSports about the effect of the friendly against After 7.

“Playing ‘After 7’ is something that has given us a good experience. We knew how tough they were and prepared for them. Our performance wasn’t bad but I think if we had trained as a team for a while, we would have done better because the score line was close. Although they couldn’t get used to our rim faster, they got the win due to most of their player’s national team experience. We really had a good game and it has taught us a lot.”

This exercise has been a good one in terms of preparation towards the Sports Festival. Volta Basketball however plans for a Justifier, where teams from Ho, Akatsi, Sogakope, Kpando, Hohoe, and Aflao converge to select players for the Sports Festival.

We’ll Complete Eastern Corridor Road to Affirm NPP’s Credibility-Dr Bawumia

0
Portions of the deteriorated Eastern Corridor road

The Vice President,  Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured that, the government of President Akufo-Addo will ensure the completion of the abandoned Eastern Corridor Road project, as an affirmation of the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) commitment to the people of the Volta region.

Dr. Bawumia speaking to Chiefs and elders of Gbi Traditional Area in the Hohoe Municipality on Saturday, May 19, 2018, averred that, the road was a measure of the NPP’s credibility, hence the government was working around the clock for work to resume  on the abandoned road network later this year.

According to him, the road is important to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and discussions have already started regarding the completion of the project.

“I am very confident that the work on the Eastern Corridor Road starts again sometime this year. We are very focused on it, the president mentioned it in the State of the Nation’s Address, Ministry of Roads is very aware of it and we believe that it is a road which really measures our credibility as a government that we have to deliver on Nana Addo’s promise. By the grace of God, we’ll do it before the end of this first term.”

Dr Bawumia’s assurance was in response to the appeal by Togbega Gabusu VI, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Council for the completion of the road project when he and his entourage paid a courtesy call on Togbega at his palace at Hohoe as part of a day’s Ramadan Tour of the region.

Dr. Bawumia paying homage to Togbega Gabusu

According to Togbega Gabusu VI, the Eastern Corridor Road from Peki-Hohoe and beyond is in deplorable after work on the project stalled for sometime causing businesses and other things in the area to suffer as consequence.

The Vice President said government has started fulfilling promises made to Ghanaians through the implementation of policies including Free Senior High School education, restoration of Teaching and Nursing Training allowances, reduction in Electricity Tariffs and is on cause to deliver on all pledges.

He talked about the recently launched policy, the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCO), it is being implemented to provide 100, 000 Ghanaians with jobs to reduce the unemployment situation in the country and encouraged all graduates who have been in the system for long without jobs to take advantage.

Dr. Bawumia kick started his nationwide Ramadan Tour from the Volta Region where he visited Aflao, Ho and Hohoe Central Mosques to pray with Muslim brothers and sisters in Ramadan (month of fasting) for God to maintain Ghana as a peaceful country.

He was in the company of senior government and party officials including Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, John Peter Amewu, Lands and Natural Resources Minister, and NPP Volta Regional Chairman, Makafui Kofi Woanyah during the tour.
