Vakpo Shepherd’s Centre of Ageing marks Second Anniversary with Health Screening

Vakpo’s branch of Shepherd’s Centre of Ageing, a group of aged Christians based in the Volta Region, have held free community health screening exercise as part of activities to mark their second anniversary celebration in the North Dayi District.

Members of the Association, most of whom are in their 80s, at Vakpo and its environs led by the branch Manager, Torgbe Atikpli IV of Ashantime, Adomi, made the exercise an exciting one through joke breaking, storytelling, dramas and bible discussions among themselves.

The event attracted both young and old in the area who received teachings on the gospel and words and advice.

Speaking to voltaonlinegh.com at the ceremony, Torgbe Atikpli IV explained that the aim of the group “Shepherd’s Centre of Ageing” is to unite to create a joyful old age for every aged person.

He stressed that, most aged people are usually tagged witches and all other forms of life problems making their old age lives regrettable, thus, exposing them to poor health status and untimely death saying, that has necessitated the forming of the Association to embrace their aged days.

He added that, the Vakpo Branch has engaged in several health screening exercises, voluntary donations to patients and clean up exercises since its establishment in 2016 and has also visited some tourist sites in the region which had transformed their lives and made them stress-free over the years.

Torgbe recommended the group to every aged person and advised people to desist from accusing the elderly as well as other forms of discrimination against them.

He revealed that the Association has plans to construct an ultra-modern park for their members in the North Dayi District and called on charity workers and individuals for support to make the construction of the park a reality.

Shepherd’s Centre of Ageing has over 20 branches across the Volta Region with over hundreds of members from Roman Catholic Church, Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Apostles Revelation Society (ARS) among others.
