Volta Volleyball Gala to Solicit for Funds

The Volta Regional Volleyball Association is organising a day’s Gala to select players and seek funds for the upcoming Southern Sector Volleyball Competition to be held in Ho in June this year.

The Gala which comes off on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Civic Centre (taxi rank), Ho, will see about 7 teams keep the ball flying, with beautiful receptions, accurate settings, powerful spikes, organised blocks & cover ups and well driven services.

Players from Aflao All Spikers, Sogakope Radio Tongu, Sokode Young Stars, Ho Volta Stars Spikers, Bator All Spikers, Dorfor Trinity Hands among others will battle it to help form a formidable team for the region.

The regional team will also have the assignment of representing the region at the Club championship in July and also the National Sports Festival at Cape Coast in late July to August.

The region, in view of these competitions is soliciting for funds to help them have successful competitions. An Amount of GH₵29,020.00 is expected to be raised at the Gala on Sunday, to fund the various activities of the Association as lack of funds has crippled their programmes in the past years.

The chairman of the Association, Johnson Ablodeh tells Voltaonlinegh Sports, they expect good competition with funds as well.

“We expect good weather in order to finish early. We also expect good competition, especially from the new club Sokode to help get strong team for the region. Looking forward to hearing and receiving good amount of money.”

“We’ll do follow-ups on those who won’t come around for funds, because hosting the southern sector championship isn’t easy. We also have to camp the players and all these is money. We expect the good people of Volta to come and witness what we’ve got in Volleyball. We are ready to receive anything in kind as well,”  he added.

The regional volleyball team has failed on two occasions to participate in the Southern Sector Volleyball Championship held in Koforidua and Takoradi respectively due to lack of finance but cannot afford to miss this year’s event as the host .

However, participating clubs for the Gala are expected to pay an amount of GH₵30.00 and present 14 players and 1 coach per team. Several dignitaries have been invited to help raise the fund at the Gala which begins at 7am.
