The Volta Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Makafui Woanyah is calling for calm among the rank and file of the party, as government announces nominees for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives for all 260 local assemblies nationwide.
The announcement, which would be made by the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Mr. Dan Botwe on Sunday afternoon, would end months of speculations and anxiety among party supporters and the general public over the long delay in announcing substantive political heads for the various assemblies.
But ahead of the big announcement, the Volta NPP chairman has urged party faithful to respect the President’s authority and accept whoever is nominated for MDCE position in any of the 18 assemblies of the region.
In a release, Mr. Woanyah said, “We have waited long enough and as expected, not every applicants will be selected and not every interest will be met. The President is the sole appointor and he alone has the prerogative to select those who must help him deliver on his mandate and transformational agenda. The opportunity to serve is therefore a privilege and not a DO OR DIE affair.”
He further called for support for the nominees to enable them have a successfully nomination process at the assemblies.
” I wish to urge all of us to accept the President’s nominations and work collectively towards their confirmation by our various Assemblies.”
The Chairman’s call follows a National Security alert to all Regional and District security councils and committees to be on alert for possible agitations after the nominations.
Meanwhile, a leaked report of the presidential Committee which vetted aspirants for the positions have recommended four incumbent MDCEs in the region for re-nominations.
They are, Hon. Edmund Kudjo Attah of North Dayi, Hon. Etornam James Flolu, Afadzato South, Hon. Ernest Apau, Ho West and Hon. Elliot Agbenorwu, Ketu South. Below is the full list of recommended nominees for possible appointment by the President.
However, there are suggestions the widely circulated list, could witness some last minute changes from the President, a situation, which is brewing uneasy calm among supporters of various aspirants.
As a result, the Volta Regional Chairman has entreated party supporters to eschew any acrimony and rancor after the announcement.

19th September, 2021
Good morning fellow Patriots.
I wish to reach out to you all this morning as we wait rather impatiently to receive the President’s nominations for our various MMDAS.
We have waited long enough and as expected, not every applicants will be selected and not every interest will be met.
The President is the sole appointor and he alone has the prerogative to select those who must help him deliver on his mandate and transformational agenda.
The opportunity to serve is therefore a privilege and not a DO OR DIE affair.
I wish to urge all of us to accept the President’s nominations and work collectively towards their confirmation by our various Assemblies.
There always will be a better tomorrow. The longer we stay in power, the greater the opportunities and the chance for us all to take our turn. Let’s eschew acrimony and rancor. There will be no winners nor losers in this process. Those who will be nominated will need the prayers and support of all of us to succeed.
I wish to congratulate all the nominees in advance and to pledge my support to help push them through the confirmation process. I also urge us all to be measured, magnanimous and gracious in our reactions to the nominations later today.
Long live Volta NPP !
Long live the NPP Government !
Long live Ghana !
