Mr. Richard Kings Atikpo, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Premier league club, Legon Cities FC has been elected as a Member of Council State for Oti Region.
The 39-year-old businessman, ward off competition from six other contenders, polling 11 out of a total of 16 votes cast. Two other contenders, Charles Gyato Kwabena Twentor and Barnabas Kwame Yeaboah secured 2 votes each, with one rejected ballot. The rest four candidates recorded zero vote.
The election was conducted by official of the Electoral Commission, led by the Regional Director, Mr. Nuhu Mahama.
Speaking to the media after the elections, Mr. Â Atikpo who is also the owner of Lemla Petroleum and Gulf Energy Ltd. promised to establish a second Division Football Club in the region to promote young talent in sports. He also assured to use his office to lobby job opportunities into the area.
Nana Obombo Sewura Lupuwura II, Akyode chief who contested but lost, called for unity among all and sundry to drive the needed development to the area. Adding that, the election should not bring division among chiefs and people of the area.
