Mama-Akura D/A School Cries for Support as Pupils Study in Structures and on Floors

By: Benjamin Owusu | Voltaonlinegh.com |

Mama-Akura D/A Basic School in the Nkwanta North District of the Volta Region is crying for support for infrastructure to enhance quality education in the school.

A visit to the school by the reporter revealed that the school which has a population of over 400 lacks text books, classrooms, computer and science laboratories, and other teaching and learning materials.

As a result of the unavailability of classrooms, pupils from junior high school (JHS) 1-3 study under a temporary structure roofed with thatch while those from Kindergarten 1 to primary 3 go through the daily ordeal of sitting and writing on the floor.

In an interview with the Head teacher of the school, Mr Francis Ngangbi, he disclosed that the lack of basic educational materials was seriously affecting academic activities as teaching and learning in the school took place in unfavourable environment.

Mr Ngangbi lamented that the situation was disadvantageous to the pupils who often got distracted during lessons due to the lack of classroom and furniture among others because they would be sitting in for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with other pupils from privileged schools.

He therefore appealed to government and individuals to help provide furniture for the pupils.

Some of the pupils  who spoke to Voltaonlinegh  about the situation in their school appealed to the district assembly, non-governmental organisation,  philanthropists  and well meaning Ghanaians to come to their aid to improve teaching and learning in the school.
