Ho: Customers stranded as LPG Retailers join Nationwide Strike

Consumers of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the Ho municipality were tuned away as LPG retailers in the Volta Regional capital closed down their facilities to join the nationwide strike in protest of the government’s Cylinder Re-circulation Model (CRM) policy.

Both domestic and commercial users of the commodity were left stranded at most LPG vending stations on Monday as the pump attendants vacated from their post.

A visit to some retailing points in the city, such as Kings Gas, Top Gas, Petro bay and Akoefe Point by this Voltaonlinegh.com reporter saw notices with inscription, “NO GAS”.

The strike which was declared by the Ghana LPG Operators Association (GLiPGOA) on Monday 21 May, saw some daily consumers mostly taxi Drivers parked their vehicles over the unavailability of the product for their operations.

Some taxi drivers expressed their frustrations to Voltaonlinegh.com about the situation and said, “Most taxis in this town now uses gas, we are no more using petrol so if they stop selling we will suffer.”

“It will affect our business, if they will not sell gas to drivers the workers too will suffer, we all we will suffer” another stressed.

However, the regional Chairman of GLiPGOA, Mr. Kateh Kumodzi insisted that, the cylinder Recirculation policy if implemented will affect businesses of their members.

According to him, the over 62 LPG retailing points across the Volta Region are all in full support of the industrial action to put pressure on  government to scrap the CRM policy; adding that, their action till continue till further notice.
