Dr. Kwaku Addeah, Secretary of the Joint Consultative Committee, (JCC) of Oti Movement  (proposed new region out of Volta Region) has passed on.

Information available to voltaonlinegh.com suggest the death of the lawyer championing the creation of Oti Region occurred on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

A communiqué by JCC of Oti Movement Leadership under the chairmanship of Krachiwura, Nana Mprah Besemuna II, confirmed his death and sympathised with his family.

“On behalf of the Chairman and members of the JCC, we wish to inform all Nananom, the entire citizens of our proposed Oti Region of the call to eternal rest of our brother and friend, Dr. Kwaku Addeah.

A JCC meeting on Sunday was curtailed to enable the Leadership visit the deceased family to confirm the sad news and commiserate with them.

“The delegation met the family who sadly confirmed the passing on of our Indefatigable Secretary, Lawyer and Spokesman of Oti Movement.”

The statement added “The family has agreed to allow JCC to bring two of our members to help the funeral committee to plan a befitting funeral for our departed brother.”

Dr.Addeah, while alive, played leading roles in the campaign to carve out Oti Region from the Volta Region in order to extend development projects to the northern part of the region.

He believed northern Volta had been neglected for so long and needed to be on its own as a region to attract development.

Whenever he appeared before the nine-member Justice Brobbey Commission of Inquiry, he said the JCC had enough justification for the creation of Oti Region.

In his view, there was “a deliberate British policy not to develop the northern side of the Volta Region and the northern region” as most of the areas of deprivation in Ghana are located in the three regions of the north, extending downwards to parts of the Volta Region.

The Commission of Enquiry was set up by President Nana Akufo-Addo in fulfillment of one of his campaign promises to examine petitions for possible creation of new regions.
