Stars of Asha (SOA) female and male teams enjoyed victories on Saturday, May 12 in week 13 of the Volta Regional Handball League in Ho.
The female side who started the day’s matches climbed back to 2nd spot with 2 points after beating Mawuko Girls 23-18. Mawuko, also with 2 points but now 3rd after being leapfrogged by SOA had a poor start to the game.
SOA, having beaten their opponents twice already knew exactly what to do and took a 5-0 lead before conceding 1. The half time finished 13-9 in favor of SOA who went into the second quarter with more energy, pace and urgency. They slowed down due to fatigue, which Mawuko took some advantage of but not entirely to secure a win.
SOA will have their last game for the first round next week against Mawuli; an opportunity to close in on leaders TERESCO.
In the male game, Mawuli School failed to replicate last week’s performance with HTU against SOA although the victory margin wasn’t wide. Many who thought they were going to witness another cracker dropped their jaws at some points as Mawuli didn’t show a lot on the day.
SOA again took the lead and had Mawuli fighting back to draw level. The first quarter results (20-15) boosted the moral of both teams to go all out in the second quarter. Mawuli made use of a lot of chances that came their way that put a boot of scare into SOA but the latter quickly recovered and confidently won by 38-31.
SOA are still on the same points (4), with Ho Technical University (HTU) as PROSCO failed to turn up for the second match of the day which resulted in 10 goals and 2 points being awarded to HTU.
Stars of Asha male will play PROSCO at 2:30pm on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Ho Sports Stadium, but after SOA female had engaged Mawuli at 1:00pm.
The Volta Regional Handball Association still has the justifier and preparations towards the forthcoming National Sports Festival in the pipeline.
