The Member of Parliament for the Kwesimintsim Constituency, Hon. Philip Fiifi Buckman, Esq., has launched the Fruit Tree for Life initiative, a bold environmental campaign aimed at promoting sustainability through the planting of fruit trees.
Held at Takoradi Senior High School, the launch was themed “Green Vegetation for Life” and forms part of a broader national vision championed by H.E. John Dramani Mahama to use tree planting as a tool for environmental protection and better livelihoods.
The event attracted a host of dignitaries including Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, Western Regional Forestry Manager, Nana Poku Bosompem, STMA MCE, Hon. F. F. Fiadoo, and EKMA MCE, Hon. Abdul Majeed Dokurugu.
Headteachers and Agricultural Science teachers from participating schools were also present to lend support and receive seedlings for planting.
In his keynote address, Hon. Buckman emphasized that the project is a long-term investment in both the environment and the health of future generations.
“This is not just a tree-planting program; it’s a life-giving initiative. It’s about building a legacy of sustainability, food security, and climate action,” he remarked.
Speakers at the event urged schools to take responsibility for the trees and incorporate environmental education into school activities.
The Fruit Tree for Life initiative aims to instill a culture of environmental stewardship among young people while improving green cover and providing fruit resources for communities.
This launch marks a significant step in the MP’s vision to ensure a greener, healthier Kwesimintsim.
