The 14-day ultimatum given by the Chief and Elders of Nogokpo to Archbishop Charles Agyinasare of Perez Chapel International is set to expire today, Friday, June 15.
During a press conference two weeks ago, the traditional leaders demanded an immediate meeting with the founder of Perez Chapel within a 14-day period to address the Archbishop’s controversial comment, where he referred to Nogokpo as the “Demonic headquarters” of the Volta Region.
In response to the ultimatum, the church announced a one-week period of fasting and prayer, while the National Peace Council issued a statement urging all parties to engage in dialogue and find a resolution.
However, it is unclear if the revered religious leader has reached out to the elders within the specified timeframe.
Nevertheless, Volta Online has learnt of the commencement of mediation efforts between the two parties by the National Peace Council.
Dr. David Normanyo, the Executive Secretary of the Volta Regional Peace Council, confirmed to Volta Online that, the council has had preliminary engagements with both sides, including the chief of Nogokpo, with the aim of relaxating the 14-day ultimatum; While, they work towards a mediation meeting on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
He added that, the council’s engagement with the media regarding the dispute has played a role in reducing tensions and ensuring moderation in media coverage of the issue.
Dr. Normanyo was thus, optimistic the scheduled mediation meeting will lead to an amicable resolution of the impasse.
