Two Doctors of some renowned hospitals in the capital, Accra, together with eight others have been arrested in connection with baby harvesting and human trafficking.
Medical and Dental Council and Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in a joint investigative operation have arrested 2 Doctors, 4 Nurses, 2 social welfare workers, a traditional birth attendant together with 2 mothers believed to have been engaging in the baby selling business.
Dr. Hope Mensah Quashie of 37 Military Hospital was arrested in his private health facility, Susan Clinic, at Latebiokoshie and another Doctor with Ridge Hospital and owner of Dangbe Community Hospital a private health facility who is believed to be using their private hospitals to trade babies.
The Executive Director of EOCO, Mr. Frank Adu Poku noted that buying and selling of babies has been the core responsibility of the crime office for some time now.
Dr. Hope Mensah Quashie working with 37 Military Hospital together with three nurses and one Dede Gift Anikpi, a traditional birth attendant who were said to be his accomplices were arrested for selling newly born baby for an amount of Gh 30,000 and aiding in the act respectively.
In a similar operation, Mr. Leonard Agbley was also arrested for human trading of a baby at a Gh 28,000 at the Tema General Hospital however; the two babies who were sold have so far been rescued and their mothers located.
