A lead advocate for the creation of Oti region and Guan district, Michael Osibo, has called on those who doubted and opposed the legitimate creation of the region and the district to rethink in the best interest of the good people of the land they are part of.
“This day is a great day in my life in the sense that it is something we started but many people doubted this day. But thank God this day has come. First of all we achieved the Oti region and then the consequence of SALL becoming Guan district has been achieved officially today. I am glad and we give praise to God for this wonderful event,” Mr. Osibo spoke to the media at the well attended inauguration of the Guan District Assembly at its capital, Likpe Mate, Friday, October 08, 2021.
On expectations Mr. Osibo said that “the community and the assembly should come together to achieve the development aspirations of the people. And added that he expects “the assembly to serve the people selflessly” so that they can “catch up with development”.
“I would ask those who were against the district to revise their notes. Now it is clear,” he remarked.
Oti region was one of six regions created in Ghana in 2018, bringing the total number of regions to sixteen.
Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Lipke (SALL) areas of the region have, through legislative instrument, become Guan district.
Guan constituency is the next expectation of the people.
Guan district becomes the 261st in the country.
Friday’s event was graced by minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, eminent statesman, Dr. Obed Asamoah, Col. Gbevlo Lartey, other government officials and chiefs and people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe traditional areas.
