The driver of a Ford Transit passenger bus which fatally crashed six persons, including two police officers on the Asikuma-Peki stretch of the Eastern corridor road has been remanded into police custody.
The 25-year old Kwame Nkrouma, who was driving the Kpassa bound bus from Accra, crushed into a motorbike carrying two police officers; Corporal Evans Quansah and Constable Richard Dadzie to their duty post around Asikuma on Sunday, February 13, 2022.
The vehicle was said to have burst its tyres, causing the driver to lose control and veered into the lane of the motorbike, resulting in the fatal crash.
Four passengers including a woman also died on the spot, while 11 others who survived including the driver were taken to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.
Having been discharged, the driver was on Wednesday February 16, 2022, provisionally charged with the offenses of Careless and Inconsiderate Driving and Negligently Causing Harm and arraigned at the Magistrate Court in Peki.
The court declined his plea and remanded him to reappear on Wednesday March 2, 2022.
Meanwhile, one of the injured passengers have been referred to the Ho Teaching Hospital for further treatment, while two are on still on admission at the Peki Government Hospital receiving treatment, and 8 others treated and discharged, according to the police.
