HTU Defeats Mawuli in a Tight Game; EPUC Withdraws From VRHL

Ho Technical University (HTU) male Handball team has defeated Mawuli Senior High School (SHS) narrowly in week 12 of the Volta Regional Handball League at the Ho Sports Stadium on Saturday, May 5.

HTU who were tied on 4 points with both Stars of Asha (SOA) and Mawuli needed a goal more than their opponents to win the match which many would tag, titanic. The game never saw any difference between the two but the tertiary side finally emerged winners with a 29-30-result.

Mawuli who represented the Central Zone Sports at the Inter Zonal competition in March after coming tops in the Inter schools Sports festival became a torn in the flesh of HTU who had to work harder to gain victory on the afternoon.

The tempo with which the game began continued throughout the end of first quarter where the scores stood at 12-12.

It was a display of technically and tactically beautiful handball last Saturday at the Ho Sports Stadium Handball court where HTU scores and Mawuli leveled.

The win for HTU keeps them on top with 6 points, 2 points adrift 2nd and 3rd places, Stars of Asha and Mawuli.

Sadly, Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC) withdrew from the league as they served the Association with a letter on the day of their match against Mawuko Girls SHS and Sokode SHS (Sostech) respectively.

EPUC who won Handball Gold and Silver for male and female respectively at the recently held PUSAG games at Kumasi cited reasons for their withdrawal being a decision by the school’s management.

Signs from SOSTECH Technical Handlers also show they might not continue with the league as they were missing for their match on Saturday, coupled with unresponsive several calls made by officials of the league and the Association.

The league however, continues on Saturday, May 12, at the Ho Sports Stadium with SOA female playing Mawuko at 12noon. HTU will then lock horns with St. Prospers SHS (Prosco) at 1:30pm before SOA male meets up with Mawuli at 3:00pm.

Meanwhile, the executives of the Volta Regional Handball Association will meet on Friday, May 11 to deliberate on issues surrounding the justification and participation at the upcoming National Sports Festival in July/August at Cape Coast.
