No Nose Masks From Gov’t To Basic Schools In Ketu North

As the number of active Corona Virus cases increase in the country, basic schools in the Ketu North municipality are yet to receive their share of nose masks from government, a situation which is making it difficult for pupils to mask-up during school hours.

Speaking to the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Ketu North Ghana education service, Mr Benjamin Atsu Dunyo, he said government has given hand sanitizers, tissue papers liquid soap and Veronica bucket to be distributed to schools but left with nose masks to be given to the schools.

He therefore pleaded with parents to help provide nose masks for their wards to help prevent the spread of the virus as he assured that, the masks will reach the Assembly soon.

Mr. Dunyo further noted that academic work had begun smoothly in all basic schools across the municipality with 80% of the students reported to school.

He urged students and teachers to strictly adhered to all Covid-19 protocols.

Vakpo Traditional Council congratulates Dr Letsa and Peter Amewu

The Vakpo Traditional Council in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region has joined a host of Chiefs and communities to congratulate Dr. Archibald Letsa and John Peter Amewu for their inclusion in the second term of President Nana Addo.

Since the release of the ministerial nominee list by the President yesterday, various groups and persons in the Volta Region have been congratulating the two Personalities for catching the eyes of the appointment authority. The Paramount Chief and President of Vakpo Traditional Council, Togbui Gbogbolulu V is the latest to join the list of stakeholders extending their goodwill to the duo.

The Chief described them as industrious sons and was proud to see them in the list of nominees.

“It is worth commending the two as hardworking and illustrious sons of our dear Region.The last four years have seen a lot of development in the region and Ghana through their hard work. We are proud of them and the opportunity given them once again”.

President Akuffo Addo named Dr. Archiblad Letsa and John Peter Amewu as Volta Regional Minister and Railway Minister respectively.

The Chiefs of Ave Traditional Area in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region have commended Nana Addo for the inclusion of Dr. Archibald Letsa and John Peter Amewu on his first list ministers submitted to Parliament for approval.

The Chiefs who form the Ave Traditional Council recounted how resourceful the two personalities were to them during the first tenure of the President. They are confident that the re-appointment of the two in the second term of the President would facilitate the desired progress in their area.

They therefore in their Press Release called on the President to consolidate his current goodwill by committing to work on the bad roads of Ave Xevi to Wuata to Matrikasa, Ave Afiadenyigba to Korve to Agormor to Akatsi, Adidikpui to Avoryikope to Nyitawuta to Agormor, and Ave Dakpa to Korve to Avevi to Akatsi. The said bad roads they explained would ease transportation of foodstuff from the district which is one of the food hubs of the region.

Klefe Youth happy about Dr Letsa’s re-appointment

The youth of Klefe, the hometown of Dr. Archibald Letsa have expressed their profound joy for his re-appointment as the Volta Regional Minister.

President Akuffo Addo in submitting his first list of Ministers for his second term to parliament for approval maintained Dr. Archibald Letsa has the Volta Regional Minister-designate.

His re-appointment according to the youth of Klefe in a press release did not come as a surprise as Dr. Letsa has worked diligently to merit a reappointment.

“His re-nomination did not astonish some of us, as the prominent state-man has effectively and efficiently coordinated Government Business in the region”

With his rich experience as a medical doctor, an accomplished entrepreneur, and an astute politician, the youth believed he deserved to be retained.

The release also extended the good wishes from the youth to the Regional Minister asking God to help him accomplish the task ahead.

UHAS Opens COVID-19 Testing Centre to General Public

The UHAS COVID-19 Testing Centre has been opened to members of the general public who need the test to fulfill immigration or other official requirements as well as for voluntary purposes.

From a notice published by the University on their website, persons in need of a test result must present themselves for their samples to be collected and come with photocopies of a valid passport when it is an immigration requirement. For other purposes, any valid National ID cards would be accepted with a recent passport photograph.

The testing services are charged depending on the turnaround time the client request. Those in for regular 24-hour results would pay an amount of GHC 350 while expedite services would be done within 3hr 30Min for GHC 450.

The collection of samples would be done either at the Testing Centre on their main campus in Sokode or the Ho Teaching Hospital in Ho.

In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the University of Health and Allied Sciences took a leadership role in setting up a Testing Centre as part of their contributions to the fight against the disease.

The University has provided the contact details of Dr. Ayivor-Djanie +233 (0) 24 454 5878 to reach out to for all the voluntary and immigration testing.

Ho Residents Lament Over Inadequate, Irregular Water Supply

Checks conducted by voltaonlinegh.com revealed that, inadequate and irregular water supply to residents in the regional capital, Ho, is affecting citizen’s livelihood for the past weeks especially at the time when the region saw a surge in the numbers of Corona virus cases.

Speaking to some residents in town to seek their view on the situation, they described the issue as challenging and need swift responds from the Authorities of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

For some residents living around Powerhouse, a suburb in Ho, they have been experiencing irregular flow of water since last year, a situation which is greatly having a burden on them while others in Bankoe noted that their plight started few weeks ago.

“We find it difficult to get water. There is no access to potable water in this area, so we are paying more for water in the area which is affecting our livelihood. Water does not flow regularly and it looks like the authorities have neglected us.” Powerhouse resident lamented.

“Yea it very difficult because since the tap is not flowing, we finds it difficult to wash our hands. normally we use the pure water to wash our hands” Sarah

“We have to carry containers roaming from wells and other places to get access to water. The situation is really bad. We are finding it difficult to protect ourselves as well as getting water”

Royce Anani, a resident in Poly Down community said, “the issue in the area is challenging, the water sometimes come once in one night within the week and even with this one, it come within some short period and seize”.

The situation is not different in areas such as Heve and other suburbs in the Volta Regional capital

2 Doctors, 8 Others Nabbed For Baby Harvesting And Child Trafficking

Two Doctors of some renowned hospitals in the capital, Accra, together with eight others have been arrested in connection with baby harvesting and human trafficking.

Medical and Dental Council and Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in a joint investigative operation have arrested 2 Doctors, 4 Nurses, 2 social welfare workers, a traditional birth attendant together with 2 mothers believed to have been engaging in the baby selling business.

Dr. Hope Mensah Quashie of 37 Military Hospital was arrested in his private health facility, Susan Clinic, at Latebiokoshie and another Doctor with Ridge Hospital and owner of Dangbe Community Hospital a private health facility who is believed to be using their private hospitals to trade babies.

The Executive Director of EOCO, Mr. Frank Adu Poku noted that buying and selling of babies has been the core responsibility of the crime office for some time now.

Dr. Hope Mensah Quashie working with 37 Military Hospital together with three nurses and one Dede Gift Anikpi, a traditional birth attendant who were said to be his accomplices were arrested for selling newly born baby for an amount of Gh 30,000 and aiding in the act respectively.

In a similar operation, Mr. Leonard Agbley was also arrested for human trading of a baby at a Gh 28,000 at the Tema General Hospital however; the two babies who were sold have so far been rescued and their mothers located.

Akatsi South DVLA office Near Completion – Hon. Adzidogah

Construction works in the Akatsi South District on the ongoing Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office is moving with speed as the District is also poised to attain municipal status Loe-Nelson Adzidoga, the District Chief Executive (DCE) has said.

This facility, he said, shall help citizen in the district and the adjourning Municipal and District Assemblies (MDA’s) to access DVLA services without going through the stress of moving to Tokor, Ho, Accra and Tema.

“We realized that our Drivers and motor riders go to Denu-Tokor, Ho, Accra and Tema to renew their licenses and even take new ones so I decided to look for somebody who can help us and fortunately, someone responded to us and currently the facility is under construction”

He noted that the facility shall be opened to the general public for business very soon.

He also hinted that, as part of his plan to transform the Akatsi South District, works are far advanced and with ready investors to transform and modernize the Akatsi central market.

Mr. Adzidoga stated that, the assembly is also working on traffic light installation to manage traffic situation in the district capital.

He said his office is only waiting for the assembly to sworn in the presiding member so as to put it before the house.

Ho Drivers Lament Over Poor Sanitation At Lorry Station

Some drivers in the Ho Municipality have called on various agencies to provide solutions to the poor sanitation situation at the Ho lorry station.

This they said will help to prevent any health challenge they may face doing businesses under unhygienic conditions.

Speaking to Samuel Addo, one of the drivers at the Ho station, he noted that they have made several calls on the Zoomlion Company to aid the lorry station with regular clearance of refuse but could not yield better result.

Mr Samuel however urged various stakeholders in the municipality to man measures which will help improve issues of Sanitation at the lorry park.

He urged colleague drivers to also offer their support in any way to maintain good sanitation conditions in the station.

He further pleaded with other drivers to strictly adhere to and ensure the wearing of nose masks and other safety precautionary measures to help curb the spread of Corona virus in the region.

NPP Members Against a Supposed Retention of Dr Archibald Letsa as Volta Regional Minister

The reappointment of Dr. Archibald Letsa as the Volta Regional Minister may face stiff opposition from some members of the New Patriotic Party in the region.

This is because a group calling itself Volta NPP Grassroots for Justice is threatening to stage series of demonstrations to oppose the reappointment of the Regional Minister.

According to the group, information from the grapevines suggests Dr. Archibald Letsa would be re-appointed; a decision that clearly may not go down well with them.

They in their supposed notice intend to start the demonstration on Monday through some principal streets of the Ho Municipality.

“We, therefore, wish to notify the police of our resolve to embark on series of procession and demonstration to register our disappointment of Dr. Archibald Letsa from Monday 25^th January 2021. The route is from Metro Mass yard (Sokode Lokoe) through Police Regional Headquarters to Civic Centre and to the Regional Party Office to present our petition to the President through the Regional Secretary”

Volta Online was unable to ascertain the issues behind the disapproval from the said group since the convener in their supposed notice to the police, did not disclose his or her identity for easy access and further interrogations.
