The Ministry of Health has announced that, Government of Ghana will on Wednesday 24th February,2021 receive the first batch of Corona Virus vaccine at the Kotoka international Airport, .
Ghana’s Covid-19 cases now stands at 80,759 with 73,365 recoveries and 582 deaths
In a press statement from the Information ministry, the Minister-Designate for Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu will lead the government delegation to receive the vaccines.
According to the communique, the program will be televised live on Ghana Television (GTV) and also on the Ministry of Information’s Facebook page.
Ghana is expected to received about 2.4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine licensed to the Serum Institute of India (AZ/SII) for the treatment of the global pandemic.
Ghana is among 145 countries listed to receive vaccines from a number of suppliers through the COVAX Facility according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) where the Ghana Health Service (GHS) will begin mass vaccination exercise for selected segments of the population.
UPDATE
According to the President Representative at the Information ministry, the vaccination will be conducted in phases among segmented populations.
He indicates that the first segment of the population that will receive the 600,000 doses includes health workers, adult above 60 years and people with underlying health conditions.
Also, frontline Executive,Legislature, Judiciary and their related staff, Frontline security personnel, some religious leaders and other personalities in Greater Accra Metro including Awutu Senya and Awutu senya East in the central Region will take part.
The statement indicated that segmented population in greater Kumasi and Obuasi Municipality will be covered.
The Vaccines according to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah will be deployed to health facilities and designated centres across the country.
The minister designate reiterate government is providing adequate vaccines to cover the entire population through bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies.
He further appealed to citizens to get vaccinated
