Over 150 delegates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Oti Region over the weekend elected regional executives with Evans Yaw Dapaah getting the nod as the Regional Chairman to lead the party to victory in the region.

The Regional Delegates Conference which was held at the Dambai College of Education in the regional capital, saw 30 candidates aspiring to be elected the first regional executives of the party.

The Extraordinary Regional Annual Delegates Conference of the party was occasioned by the recently created six new regions across the country including Oti out of the Volta Region.

It was to elect officers to fill vacant regional executive positions in Volta as well as Oti as the old leadership had officers from both divides.

Businessman, Evans Yaw Daapah polled 80 votes, while Lawyer Steven Benyaseh Alewabah had 43 leaving David Tibrum Makinye Baatu who allegedly attempted bribing delegates with 100 motorbikes, with no vote.

Steven Akumoah was elected Vice Chairman with Joshua Makubu as Secretary while Joseph Yaw Denteh and Adjei Ntim went unopposed for the Treasurer and 1st Vice Chairman positions respectively.

With 64 votes, Olivia Yawa Aglago won the Regional Women’s Organiser position with Leona Atese Osibo Baah managing 50 votes as against Doris Abronyeh, 35 votes and Patience Ama Yirenkyi, 5.

In an acceptance speech on behalf of the other executives, the Regional Chairman thanked delegates for having confidence in them and promised to work hard to retain the party in power and also win more parliamentary seats within the eight constituencies in addition to Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi (SALL) areas yet to be decided on.

He called on party faithful to bury their differences and forge ahead in unity to win in the 2020 general elections.

Oti Regional Minister, Nana Owusu Yeboah urged members of the NPP to exercise restraints and stay focused, and work hard for the infant Oti Region to witness development under Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
