Nkorsuahene of Akwamu Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, Nana Offei Asamani I has demonstrated his commitment to support the healthcare needs of the vulnerable by registering over 100 aged persons unto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at Salo in the Anloga District of the Volta Region.
Nana Asamani also known as Torgbui Agbelorm in an interview with the reporter said he needed to make that effort to enroll the aged onto the scheme to ensure they could easily have access to medical attention to stay healthy.
The head of Adzorvia clan in Salo said there was the need for a healthy nation and to him, good health of the aged ones was his priority because they (the aged) needed more medical attention to enable them stay healthy to impact the several years of knowledge and experience they acquired into the upcoming generation.
He cited an example of aged homes elsewhere where such older people were kept and well taken care of so as to serve as a resource base in terms of knowledge and experience to the community.
Torgbui Agbelorm therefore pledged to build a recreational centre for the aged in the community where they could from time to time, meet and deliberate on issues and also be easily accessed by the young ones who might come to seek their (the aged) counsel on various subjects.
The beneficiaries thanked their benefactor who hails from Salo (paternal) and Akwamufie (maternal) for his kind gesture and prayed for God’s blessing on his life to be able to redeem his pledge for the good of Salo community.
