The 2nd Volta Regional Handball League(with Stars of Asha men and TERESCO women as winners of the maiden edition) which has seen 10 weeks of exciting matches at the Ho Sports Stadium will be going for Easter break, starting this weekend, April 13, 2019.
The league played only on Saturdays goes on an early break due to the unavailability of referees who are currently officiating the basic sports games at Akatsi.
Meanwhile, 3 women matches which were played over the past 2 weeks had Mawuko winning their first match in 3 outings against Mawuli School on March 30, 2019, a week 9 fixture.
The only match played on that day saw Mawuko win by 15-7 as Sonrise, who were to play Ho Technical University requested for a postponement.
On Saturday, April 6, leaders on the women table, South Tongu Talents (STT) defeated Mawuli by 39-15, with a half time score of 23-4. STT went ahead to humiliate Ho Technical University 46-13 on the same day after leading 25-6 at half timeC were exposed as they did not have a full complement of the players.
South Tongu Talents are now 4 points clear at the summit of the women table, with 8 points after 5 matches. Unique Stars follow with 4 points, while Ho Technical University lie 3rd with 2 points. Sonrise and Mawuko in that order are also with 2 points each whereas Mawuli occupy the bottom spot with no point.
The league is expected to bounce back after the Easter break with week 11 fixtures which will see Mawuli lock horns against Unique Stars women and as well play Stars of Asha men.
The second season of the league is still hoping to land sponsors to promote the sport.
