Traders at Nkwanta market in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Volta Region have appealed to the Assembly to provide them with security and warehouse for their wares.

The organiser of the traders’ association, Madam Fuseini Sahadatu identified the absence of security post and storerooms in the market as contributing to the increase in theft in the market which was making traders lose their capital.

She made the appeal when the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly handed over GH¢150,000 construction project to Clap Larrey Company Limited for the construction of a 10-seater toilet facility in the market and as well, the renovation of sheds that were razed down by fire some years ago.

Some structures to be renovated

Some traders who spoke with Voltaonlinegh.com bemoaned the behavior of some revenue collectors any time they came to the market to collect tax describing it as unacceptable.

The traders also sought a downward review of rates charged by the assembly which they claimed were high considering the current state of the market.

The Nkwanta South Municipal Planning Officer, Mr Issac Agyapong assured that their grievances would be addressed, adding, the project formed part of measures to give the market a new facelift.

He called on the traders to pay their taxes to enable the assembly undertake more development projects in the area.
