The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North in the Volta Region, Jackson Jakayi, has appealed to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to situate a secretariat in his district to enable residents to access services of the scheme with ease.

According to him, residents are compelled to travel to other districts in a quest to register or renew their membership.

He described the phenomenon as “unacceptable and a slap on the face of the citizens”, when giving his second sessional address at the 1st ordinary assembly meeting at Kpassa, the district capital.

Mr Jakayi lamented that Nkwanta North District has been deprived of the needed development projects since its creation some 10 years ago.

He detailed that the district is confronted with numerous challenges, paramount among them being lack of a befitting assembly structure, health facilities, educational infrastructure and potable water.

“The lack of a befitting structure is seriously affecting the full integration of the departments at the assembly where some of the departments are housed in rented apartments. The assembly doesn’t have adequate staff to enable it perform its principal functions effectively”, he said.

Speaking on education, the DCE argued that the continuous use of untrained teachers in schools is one of the contributing factors of non-performance and appealed for pragmatic approaches towards rescuing the fallen standard of education in the district.

He advised pupils to be disciplined, take their studies seriously and stay away from illicit drugs, such as tramadol, marijuana and other social vices to ensure a brighter future.

The Presiding Member, Mr Simal Nyofam, extended an invite to investors and philanthropists interested in the development of the district, assuring of the assembly’s support to ensure the district sees the needed development projects.
