A Non-Governmental Organization base in Germany, Healthcare Information Technology for Africa (HITA) has donated some medical equipment to the Hasu Community Polyclinic at Adaklu in the Volta region.
The items, comprising a sterilizer, baby scale, 8 highly sophisticated beds and three sets of computers were to augment and facilitate work at the polyclinic built by a citizen of the area and run by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Chief Executive Officer of HITA, Mr. Thomas Erkert speaking at a brief presentation ceremony at the weekend, said six of the eight beds had inbuilt engines that enable them to be adjustable, to suit the position of caregivers.
“These are beds use in intensive care in Germany, and the nurses don’t have to struggle to attend to patients because the mattresses can be adjusted to any position. The mattresses are also unique which prevent pressure wounds,” he stated.
Mr. Erkert indicated that, the three computers which are interconnected were to aid record keeping at the polyclinic, which was a major challenge for most health facilities due to the cumbersome nature of the manual system.
He also expressed HITA’s readiness to start a vocation training school in the Hasu community to provide skills training for the youth through its partners, the Chances foundation and the School of Nursing and Midwifery of UHAS.
The Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Mr. Kwame Agbodza, who was overwhelmed by the gesture, commended HITA and its local partner, Chances Foundation for equipping the polyclinic which is a major health facility in the district.
He assured the organizations’ of his support towards any endevour to boost the socio-economic development of the area.
Madam Phillipa Ivy Agbozo, in-charge of the Hasu Polyclinic, said HITA’s donation was timely as it will go a long way to improve health care delivery at the facility.
‘With the computers given, it will greatly reduce the time we spent on record keeping and we can now have more time for our patients. Also the beds will prevent us from bending anytime we want to attend to patients in the wards. We can now raise the beds and adjust them to any level with a press of a button,” she enumerated and assured the donors of periodic maintenance.
Meanwhile, in a move to cement the relationship between HITA and the community, traditional leaders have enstooled Mr. Erkert as a Development Chief with a title Togbe Awumenu I.
