Commercial tricycle (keke) operators in Ho have gone cashless following the launch of MobileMoney-Fintech Limited’s “Ride with MoMo” initiative.
The launch, held on July 16, 2026, featured a colourful float by riders displaying “I Accept MoMo” inscriptions on their windscreens. The procession began at the Ho Teaching Hospital and ended at the Central Market, where the official ceremony took place.
The initiative enables riders to receive fares directly into their Mobile Money wallets, eliminating challenges such as lack of change, counterfeit notes, and payment disputes. Senior Manager for Business Development, Mr Abdul-Majeed Rufai, said the platform provides instant payment notifications and helps riders track and reconcile daily earnings.
A three-month promotional campaign will reward riders who complete at least 20 transactions worth GH¢1,000 weekly with GH¢500 and one gigabyte of data.
Mr Peter Bimpeh, Senior Manager, General Trade South East, MTN Ghana, described the initiative as a secure and reliable payment solution that supports financial inclusion, noting collaboration with GhIPSS, the Mahama Cando Association, and other stakeholders.
Local riders welcomed the move. Mr Victor Adzah, Chairman of the UHAS Keke Riders Association, told the GNA that, the platform has improved his savings culture and eliminated the inconvenience of passengers paying with large notes. Passengers can now pay fares conveniently via QR code or direct MoMo transfer, making transactions faster and safer.
