UHAS gets IT facility from German NGO

The School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) of the University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS) has been fitted with a state-of the art Computer laboratory by a German not-for-profit organization; Healthcare Information Technology for Africa (HITA).

The facility also comes with a campus Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) that provides both faculty and students with high-speed online access to educational contents and services.

The system, which is being piloted at the University’s Trafalgar campus in Ho, was designed in collaboration with faculty to manage and control the learning platforms.

Mr. Thomas Erkert, Chief Executive Officer of HITA, speaking at the inauguration of the facility last Thursday, said the project will be replicated in other schools of the university base on the experiences acquired from the pilot.

The head of Public Health Nursing at UHAS and facilitator for HITA, Dr Robert Kaba Alhassan said the long term goal of the HITA partnership, was to migrate the university’s top and sandwich programmes to distance e-Learning using the WLAN system.

This, he note would eliminate challenges faced by the top-up and sandwich students, as it would afford them the convenience to study anywhere without necessarily being present in the lecture halls.

Professor John Gyapong, UHAS Vice Chancellor, said the University valued its partnership with HITA, which would help position it to deliver on its mandate using technologically driven teaching and learning approaches.

He entreated both staff and students to make good of the facility to enhance their researches and also assured of adequate maintenance of the facility to serve its intended purpose.

HITA together with its local partner, the Chances Foundation also donated some mecicla equipment to selected health facilities.
