The Volta Region is set to host the inaugural edition of the Volta Regional Minister’s Cup competition, scheduled for February 14 at the Regional Youth Resource Centre at Adaklu-Tsriefe, near Ho.
The tournament, themed “Fostering Growth and Progress for the Development of Volta Region Through Sports,” aims to promote unity, talent development, and economic growth within the region.
Eight teams, formed from the 18 municipal and district assemblies in the Volta Region, will compete in the tournament, which is expected to be an annual event under the leadership of Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister.

Speaking at a press launch in Ho on Monday, Mr. Gunu emphasized the role of sports in uniting people and announced that the Minister’s Cup would be an annual event.
Mr. Daniel Agbogah, Chairperson of the Volta Regional Football Association (RFA), revealed that the association had initially planned a regional football competition, but the Regional Minister’s engagement led to the formation of the Minister’s Cup.

The teams competing in the tournament are Southern A, Southern B, Tongu, Kpetoe-Ziope-Adaklu, Ho, Dayi, Hohoe-Afadzato South, and Kpando. The winning team will receive a trophy and a cash prize, while other participating teams will receive consolation prizes.
Mr. Gunu assured the teams that transportation arrangements would be made to facilitate their movement to the venue, and prizes would be awarded to the winning teams.
The Minister expressed his commitment to expanding sports development in the Volta Region, promoting other sporting disciplines beyond football.
