An Aflao-headquartered company specialised in general electricals, satellite and disc installations, Napoleon Electricals has opened a two-week skills training programme to train 42 youths in Satellite Dish and Decoder Installation at Aflao, capital of Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region.
The training, the fifth of its kind in seven years by the company had participants drawn from various parts of the region including Keta, Ketu North and South and Akatsi South Districts and from the capital of neighbouring Togo, Lome.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Friday, July 26, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Napoleon Electricals, Napoleon Gbeti, disclosed that the company has since 2012, trained over 250 beneficiaries with various skills.
Mr. Gbeti mentioned Network Setting/Scanning, Connecting signal cable from dish to decoder, Types of decoders, Multi TV decoders and dish measurements, Dish parts, Multi TV and DSTV frequencies, Polarizations, Symbol rates and Atmospheric challenges as areas of training.
He underscored the importance of the training to the development of the youth saying, it would help them to be self-reliant noting that past trainees were doing well with some of them being recruited into the security services such as the Police and the Fire services.
The CEO quoted the training fee of GH¢200 paid by each trainee and explained that it covered kits, field training expenses and other costs, adding, trainees would receive installation fees any time they helped in executing installation contracts and hinted of plans to expand the scheme to the entire region to empower the youth.
Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Elliot Agbenorwu commended Napoleon Electricals for the initiative to train the youth with employable skills saying, it was in line with government’s agenda of encouraging the youth to acquire job skills to help reduce unemployment in the country.
“What you are doing here would create employment and reduce crime, including armed robbery and stealing and placing the trainees on the platform for future progress and we laud you,” Mr. Agbenorwu said.
He called on the youth not to rush into motor riding business but try to acquire skills to secure their future while assuring the trainees of the Ketu South Assembly’s support through the MASLOC Fund to establish them.
The trainees who spoke to the media were gratitude to the company for the opportunity to acquire skills that would enable them fend for themselves and their family and expressed hope that others would get the same opportunity as them to empower themselves.
