‘I have No Tribal Agenda against Voltarians’ – President Akufo-Addo

0

BY: Lambert Atsivor | Voltaonlinegh.com |

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said his government has no ethnic or political agenda against the Volta Region, as being claimed by some critics of the new patriotic Party administration.

According to him, the region remains an integral part of the country, for which the government he leads would never discriminate against.

The president’s comment comes on the back of a recent uproar which greeted a security deployment along country’s eastern frontier, which critics claimed was meant to intimidate residents of the border communities in the Volta region during the just ended voters registration exercise.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Anloga on Thursday as part of his one day working visit to the area, President Akufo-Addo explained, the region was not singled out for any special military operation ahead of the conduct of the voter registration exercise, but rather the security deployment was done along all the country’s borders and has no political or ethnic underpinnings.

He noted that, despite detailed explanations on the operation by the Defence Minister and other Ministers, the explanations did not appear to have satisfied some people, “because of the mischief that is so easily generated by some elements of social media, and also because of the season we are in, and the determination of some people to stir up ethnic sentiments in the hope of reaping some political advantage”.

Currently 1,000 military personnel deployed along the country’s borders, of which 163 are deployed along the Volta Region border, the president stated, adding that,  “Volta Region is an integral part of the Republic of Ghana, and military deployments in a Region cannot be described as an invasion.”

He therefore sees it as an unfortunate development, how the issues has been escalated into accusations of ethnic cleansing agenda against the government, and urged residents of the Region not to feed into such propaganda tactics, which only ‘stir up needless ethnic animosity amongst citizens who are, otherwise, living peacefully with one another’.

The President further explained that, the easiest way to tell if people are being discriminated against by a government would be to look out for how the national cake is shared, adding that, on that score, his Government has been exceptional, as his Government has spread development projects equitably in all parts of the country with the Volta Region its fair share.

BY: Lambert Coffie | Voltaonlinegh.com |

With just four months to the December 2020 general elections, the governing New Patriotic Party in the Volta Region has outdoored its campaign machinery in Ho over the weekend.

The 30-member Regional Campaign team, inaugurated by the National Organizer Mr. Sammi Awuku, is chaired by the NPP Regional Chairman, Mr. Makafui Woanya and comprises, the Regional Minister and his Deputy, Dr. Archibald Letsa and Rev. Johnson Avuletey, Council of State Member, Mr. Francis Nyonyo, Energy Minister and NPP Parliamentary candidate for Hohoe, Mr. John-Peter Amewu as well as other government and regional party functionaries, including Regional Secretary, Mr. Joseph Homenya.

They have a singular task of coordinating the campaign activities across all 18 constituencies in order to maximize the party’s votes in the region, which has been a stronghold for the opposition National Democratic Congress.

According to Mr. Awuku, the NPP was poised to work rigorously for the votes in the Volta region, stressing that they would resist any form of intimidation from their opponent on the campaign trail.

“For us, we are also targeting that we will move from our microfinance level in this region to be a commercial bank in this region and we [NPP] will not accept any form of intimidation. People should come to us with ideas; the NPP will not be cowed into submission that this [Volta Region] should be an exclusive preserve of the opposition party.”

He thus charged the campaign committee to work hard to deliver massive votes for the party’s presidential candidate, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at the elections and also secure some parliamentary seats in the region.

On his part, Mr. Woanya expressed the readiness of the campaign team to deliver on its mandate and called for an all-hands-on-deck approach to deliver another resounding victory for the NPP in December.

Togbe Adzimah & Togbe Keh of Gbi Traditional council

BY: News Desk | Voltaonlinegh.com |

The Chiefs and People of Gbi Traditional Area (Hohoe) have expressed satisfaction with ongoing infrastructural developments in the Hohoe Municipality, they said was indicative of government’s zeal to ensure the developmental progress of the area.

According to them the area had over the years witnessed several unfulfilled promises of development by successive governments, and as such, were elated that, for the first time in a long time, they are witnessing unprecedented development in their area as promised by the President.

The Chiefs at a press conference in Hohoe to express their gratitude to President Akufo Addo, urged him to continue giving off his best for the area.

Addressing the press conference, Chief of Abansi, Togbe Adzimah V recounted that the President in February 2020 visited the area to sympathise with them over the demise of their Paramount Chief, Togbega Gabusu VI.

He said the President during the visit grieved over his inability to fix the main Hohoe Trunk road and the Hohoe township roads, he assured Togbega Gabusu before his passing.

The President however re-assured the Chiefs and people of the area that the roads will be fixed to honour the late Togbega Gabusu VI.

“True to his words, the main Hohoe trunk road and the township roads are currently being fixed with Asphalt, something the late Togbega Gabusu VI had always been craving till his demise.”

Togbe Adzimah V indicated that the new developmental feat being achieved in the municipality was an immense memorial honour done the late Paramount chief for which his “soul would remain forever grateful”.

Projects

Some of the Hohoe town road projects include, Picnic road, Vekusime road, Togbe Gborxo street, Kpeme roads, Bla roads, Hohoe Labato Junction, Hohoe-Fodome roads, River Dzandze Bridge among others.

Development focused

The Chiefs have commended the President and the Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, for their roles in ensuring the people have their share of the national cake.

Togbe Keh XII, Chief of Gbi Wegbe (Left Wing Chief) said traditional leaders had in the past commended individuals across the political divide who had contributed to the progress of the area, and as such it was not out of place to commend the efforts the current government, given their desire to see to it that the development of the area came to fruition.

He said the commendation is not political but a fact that needed to be acknowledged because “he who climbs a fruitful tree is worthy of support.”

Enough of NPP’s Perennial Discrimination Against Ewes-Fiifi Kwetey [VIDEO]

0

By: News Desk | Voltaonlinegh |

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey  has said “enough” of the consistent discrimination against the Volta Region and its people by some elements in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP, saying, “Ewes can’t breathe.”

He said the party had for a long time, made various attempts to brand and suspect Ewes as foreigners who should not enjoy their rights as citizens of Ghana including the right to exercise one’s franchise.

Mr Kwetey who said this while addressing a press briefing organised by the party held in the Ketu South Municipality on the recent military deployment to the region, said the “owners of Ghana” (NPP) had always branded Ewes as Togolese.

“This show of tribal hatred did not start today. The Nana Addo government is only taking it to a whole new level. This deep-seated animosity comes from a sense of entitlement- the belief that because they are ‘superior Ghanaians’, all others who do not share their political perspective must be deemed ineligible so that the political destiny of Ghana would remain exclusively in their hands.”

Watch full Presser Below [Fiifi’s submission: from 30mins]

He said the NPP family had challenged the citizenship of former President Rawlings whose mother comes from Keta in the Volta region and continued to do same to other sons and daughters from the region.

Mr Kwetey whose father hails from Nogokpo and Anyako and mother from Denu and Klikor said in 2009, he also faced similar discrimination at his parliamentary vetting to become a deputy minister of finance when the NPP family claimed that he was not a Ghanaian to become a member of Ghana’s government.

He said the earlier the NPP family snapped out of the delusion that some other Ghanaians “are foreigners and only they are proper Ghanaians”, the better for all of Ghana as the respect for all Ghanaians, north, south, east or west was crucial in the endeavor for all to hold hands in the true spirit of brotherhood, as envisaged by Dr Kwame Nkrumah at the time of Ghana’s independence.

The Ketu South MP insisted the military presence along the borders in the region was a just game plan and called on the voice of conscience to speak against “this looming danger” and let the “NPP government and others who think alike to appreciate that Citizenship is a question of law.”

MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said just as “the Ewes are in Ghana and Togo, so are Akans found in Ivory Coast so, why is nobody talking about that” but always the citizenship question continued to be directed at the Ewes?

He said the people of the region had equal stake for its produced illustrious sons and daughters including the composer of the Ghana’s national anthem, Mr Philip Gbeho.
