NDC Suspends Koku Anyidoho With Immediate Effect

The Functional Executive Committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended former Deputy General secretary of the Party, Mr. Samuel Koku Anyidoho.

A letterĀ  signed by the General secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah indicated that, the decision was taken in accordance with article 46(1), 46(6), and 46(8)(b).

The statement further said,Ā  two registered members of the party in the Oti and Bono Regions has petition the party to suspend Mr Anyidoho for his gross misconduct and hate speech against the party.

Mr Anyidoho is expected to appear beforeĀ  the party’s disciplinary committee for full determination of the issue.

Dzodze Urban Council Calls On Residents to Adhere to Covid-19 Protocols

The Dzodze Urban Council has urged residents to, as a matter of urgency, adhere to the safety protocols for the containment of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The call follows the appropriate measures indicated byĀ  President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to put an end to the spread of the virus.

In a statement signed by the Urban Council Chairman, Hon. Christian Quaku Tornyo, they noted that the council shall ensure the strict adherence of the protocols at funeral grounds, Schools and Markets in the community.

They added that churches, chop bars and other public places would not be exempted.

The council noted that, there have beenĀ  non-compliance at most public places in the community therefore the need to enforce the law on whoever would be found culpable.

The Council therefore solicits the support from all the people of Dzodze and its environs to fight the disease so as to make Dzodze community safe and icon of good reference for other communities in the Ketu North Municipality.

Nine Battle for Council of State slot in Volta

NineĀ  prominent individuals from the Volta Region hasve filed to contest for the Volta Regional slot of the council of state position slated for FridayĀ  February 12, 2021.

Notable among them include the immediate past member Mr. Francis Albert Seth Nyonyo aged 53, Madam Grace Adiku Heloo (66), Paramount Chief of Avatime Traditional Area Osie Adza Tekpor VII (62).

Others included the parliamentary candidate for the Progressive People’s party in the 2020 Election of the South Dayi Constituency Felix Lartey (42), Atsu-Koni Charles (43), Osei Christian Dziidi (43), Dzakpah Daniel Dzifa Kwabla (28)Ā  Robert Castro Mediale (53) and Frederick Kwame Gbeku (46).

The Council of state is established by Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana to counsel the President in the performance of his function as the President of Ghana and the commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Council of State membership includes a former Chief Justice of Ghana, former chief of Defense Staff, a former Inspector general of Police, the president of the National House of Chiefs, one elected representative from each of the 16 Regions of Ghana and 11 appointeesĀ  of the President of the Republic.

Wear Your Masks – Akatsi North DCE To Residents

Following President Akuffo-Addo’s initiatives to manage the upsurge of Covid-19 in the country, the Akatsi North District Chief Executive (DCE), Dr. Prince Amuzu Sodoke has called on residents to strictly observe the protocols.

In an exclusive interview with VoltaOnline’s Kekeli Blamey, the DCE noted that directives from the President with regards to observing the necessary Covid-19 protocols have to be implemented.

Dr. Sodoke explained that many people lost their lives in the country due to failure on their part to strictly follow measures put in place to combat the coronavirus.

He revealed that the Akatsi North District has not recorded any case of the Virus since its first outbreak in the country adding that residents in his District have followed all laid down procedures.

Dr. Sodoke also indicated that as the country is experiencing a second wave of the deadly virus, his office will do everything possible to maintain a virus-free district status.

He said nose masks, soaps, tissues, sanitizers, and buckets have been distributed to all schools in the district.
The DCE also added that all offices in the district have been provided with the requisite Personal Protective equipment for safety.

Dr. Prince Amuzu Sodoke however urged all and sundry, especially the market women, to continue using their masks and sanitizers so as to avoid being hit by the virus.

GIS Intercepts 51 Immigrants at Asikuma Inland Checkpoint

The Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 51 ECOWAS Nationals, including minors, at the Asikuma Inland Checkpoint.

The suspects were made up of 49 Beninese and 2 Togolese, comprising 15 Females and 36 Males.

According to Mr Felix Klu Adjei, OIC, Public Affairs Volta Region, the immigrants were on board a Hyundai Universe Express with registration number AW9955-19, driven by Mr Osei Asibbey on Wednesday February 3, 2021 at about 1930 HRS.

The Commander at the Checkpoint, Deputy Superintendent (DSI) Philip Essuman noted that, the suspects were intercepted when the vehicle they were traveling with was stopped at the checkpoint and the occupants were subjected to a careful scrutiny.

ā€œThey were suspected to have gained entry into the country illegally from neighboring Togo through the unapproved routesā€. They noted

However, the suspects’ written statement revealed that they gained entry into the country illegally from Togo with the assistance of some unknown commercial Motor Bike Riders on the Togo side of the border.

The Suspects further claimed they were on transit through Ghana to Abidjan to seek for greener pastures.

All suspects have currently been sent back to Lome, Togo after they were made to go through necessary immigration and basic Covid-19 protocol formalities at the Aflao border respectively.

The Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service therefore entreat all citizens and individual drivers who frequently uses the Asikuma and Sogakope Inland Checkpoints, to as matter ofĀ  responsibility and obligation to the state, cooperate with current strategic security arrangements; which is aimed at tracking illegal immigrants at the said locations.

HTU, UHAS Among Top Ranked Universities in Ghana

Two universities in the Volta region; – Ho Technical University (HTU) and University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) have been ranked among some of the best tertiary institutions in Ghana.

The latest Webometrics World Universities Ranking released for January 2021, featured HTU at the 10th position, from its previous 24th position in the July 2020 ranking; while, UHAS, on the other hand maintained its 13th position on the ranking within the period.

HTU’s exceptional showing in this year’s ranking, makes it the second-best Technical University on the ranking after 8th placed, Accra Technical University.

The other eight Technical Universities were ranked in the following order; Koforidua – 18th, Accra – 23rd, Takoradi – 28th, Sunyani- 32nd, Cape Coast – 38th, Bolgatanga – 47th, Tamale – 56th and Wa – 63rd.

In all, 68 public and private institutions of higher learning were featured in the latest ranking, which had University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, University for Development Studies and University of Education, Winneba, taking the first to 5th positions, respectively.

The Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC), another tertiary in the Volta region, however dropped two places to the 49th position on the latest ranking, from last year’s 47th position.

The Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions with the objectives to promote web publication, supporting open access initiatives and electronic access to scientific publications and other academic materials.

The indicators for the ranking are Presence (public knowledge shared), Impact (web contents impact), Openness (top cited researchers) and Excellence (top cited papers).

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the ā€˜Consejo Superior de Investigaciones CientĆ­ficas’ (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of universities all over the world based on their web presence and impact.

Dzodze Traditional Area Petitions President On Nomination Of Hon. Kofi Dzamesi

Chiefs and Queens from the Dzodze Traditional Area in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region have petitioned the President of the Republic, H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on the nomination of Hon. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi Ahiave for a ministerial portfolio or any other appropriate office.

According to the Traditional Authorities, Mr. Dzamesi is an industrious son of the land whose contributions towards development has been phenomenal and diverse.

They noted that, these developments have been as a result of the competitiveness he brings into the politico-social ambiance of the entire Ketu North Constituency.

To the Traditional Council, they are not campaigning for any political party, but campaigning for their son, an individual who they believe when given the opportunity and adequate resources, can complete what he has begun.

“In as much as Chiefs are not to partake in active politics, we together with our people ultimately benefit from the political competition among the two major parties in the area as each side tries to present a better solution to our challenges”. they stated

They said, they have seen the positive sides of Mr. Dzamesi in all his political endeavors from the Regional minister to the Ministry ofĀ  Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

“From his days as a Regional Minister during the erstwhile Kuffour’s Administration and as a Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister under your tenure, we have come to see that he is a very good development agent”.

The Traditional Council said, theyĀ  have also seen what happened in Hohoe, where John-Peter Amewu the former Energy Minister introduced a similar competition in the politico-social atmosphere of the area. A phenomenon which has translated into unprecedented development and paradigm shift in the area.

“We have also not been surprised that his development oriented kind of leadership has also seen him win the hearts of a lot of our people; his constituents. No wonder he managed to garner about 23000 votes when he contested in the 2020 general elections to represent the people in parliament.This love that is generating around him also saw your Excellency garner about 15000 votes in the same election. This for us, is unprecedented and commendable because, ā€œhe who climbs a fruitful tree must be supportedā€ as our elders will say”

They said, Mr. Dzamesi is climbing a fruitful tree hence pleading with the President to kindly support him to do more for his people so as to see the development Ā the entire Volta region desire.

They are therefore stepping in to appeal to the President to nominate Hon. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi Ahiave for a ministerial portfolio or any other office the presidency deems fit in the second administration.

2020/2021 SHS Placement Not Released Yet-GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has advised the general public to only rely on the GES official social media handles for credible information regarding the release of the 2020/2021 Senior High School’s placement rather than fake news portals.

In a statement contained in their press release dated February 4, 2021, they said their facebook (ges.gov.gh), Twitter (@gheduservice), Instagram (@gheduservice), and the Website (ges.gov.gh) are to be used by the general public to access any credible information from their outfit.

The management further added that, preparations are underway for the release of the SHS placement for the 2020/2021 academic year.

They therefore assured parents, guardians, candidates and the general public that, the GES remained committed to ensuring a smooth, merit-based SHS placement process under established guidelines and look forward to their full cooperation.

Ketu North MP Donates Medical Equipment to St Anthony’s Hospital

The member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency, Hon James Klutse Avedzi, has donated hospital equipment’s to st Anthony’s hospital in Dzodze.

Items donated included delivery beds, critical beds, babies cot, overhead tables and lockers.

Presenting the equipment to the hospital management, Dr. Avedzi said the gesture was aimed at supporting the hospital in delivery of good and quality health care in the municipality.

“It is my hope that this equipment go a long way to enhance quality health delivery in the municipality and I want to urged you to make good use of them”

He therefore encouraged the hospital’s management to keep observing the Covid-19 protocols.

Receiving the Items, the Municipal Health Director Mrs. Eve Irene Passh expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the donation.

“We are grateful to the MP for the donation especially the delivery beds, because the hospital doesn’t have a delivery bed which is making delivery difficult. I appreciate the MP for the kind gesture and we pray for more equipment to come “

The hospital management was also grateful to the MP and pledge to inculcate a good maintenance culture to safeguard the lifespan of the equipment.

Don’t Do Business With unscrupulous individuals – ECG Warns

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Hohoe Municipality has noted with great concern the removal and illegal sales of meters in the Municipality by unknown individuals.

In a public notice issued on 3rd February 2021, the company is urging all their Customers to report those who are involved in the act to the nearestĀ  PoliceĀ  Station or the District Office.

The statement urged customer in the Hohoe Municipality to always visit the District Office to transact business and not with any third party.

They further advice that only Official who are accredited should be allowed by citizens to their individual homes to do their legitimate works.
