BY: KALD I Voltaonlinegh.com |

The Volta Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Makafui Woanyah is calling for calm among the rank and file of the party, as government announces nominees for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives for all 260 local assemblies nationwide.

The announcement, which would be made by the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Mr. Dan Botwe on Sunday afternoon, would end months of speculations and anxiety among party supporters and the general public over the long delay in announcing substantive political heads for the various assemblies.

But ahead of the big announcement, the Volta NPP chairman has urged party faithful to respect the President’s authority and accept whoever is nominated for MDCE position in any of the 18 assemblies of the region.

In a release, Mr. Woanyah said, “We have waited long enough and as expected, not every applicants will be selected and not every interest will be met. The President is the sole appointor and he alone has the prerogative to select those who must help him deliver on his mandate and transformational agenda. The opportunity to serve is therefore a privilege and not a DO OR DIE affair.”

He further called for support for the nominees to enable them have a successfully nomination process at the assemblies.

” I wish to urge all of us to accept the President’s nominations and work collectively towards their confirmation by our various Assemblies.”

The Chairman’s call follows a National Security alert to all Regional and District security councils and committees to be on alert for possible agitations after the nominations.

Meanwhile, a leaked report of the presidential Committee which vetted aspirants for the positions have recommended four incumbent MDCEs in the region for re-nominations.

They are, Hon. Edmund Kudjo Attah of North Dayi, Hon. Etornam James Flolu, Afadzato South, Hon. Ernest Apau, Ho West and Hon. Elliot Agbenorwu, Ketu South. Below is the full list of recommended nominees for possible appointment by the President.

However, there are suggestions the widely circulated list, could witness some last minute changes from the President, a situation, which is brewing uneasy calm among supporters of various aspirants.

As a result, the Volta Regional Chairman has entreated party supporters to eschew any acrimony and rancor after the  announcement.

Below is the full statement

We’re Sorry for Not Giving You an  MP’ – Krachiwura Apologises to Nana Addo

0

BY: KALD I Voltaonlinegh.com |

The Paramount chief of Krachi Traditional Area, Nana Mprah Besemuna has  apologized to President Akufo-Addo, for the inability of the Oti region  to deliver a single parliamentary seat for the governing New Patriotic Party in the 2020 elections.

The Krachiwura, who is also the President of Oti Region House of Chiefs,  said  “It is sad that Oti did not contribute any seat to your victory despite all that your government did for the region… We can only apologise and urge you to put this behind you and focus on your developmental agenda for Oti so the people can boast of your legacy in the area.”

He rendered the apology when President Akufo-Addo interacted with traditional leaders at Dambai, as part of his one-day tour of the region on Thursday.

The NPP prior to last year’s election, had one out of the 8 parliamentary seats in the Oti enclave, but lost it to the opposition NDC at polls, in spite of the creation  of a new region for the area by the government.

That notwithstanding, the Krachiwura urged the President not to feel disappointed at the turn of events but rather remain focus and execute his agenda for the region. Adding, “That is the beauty of the democracy. Being an astute politician, I believe you will appreciate the dynamics of the issues.”

He also posited that, they do not  regret fighting  for their own region, as the area was now having a fair distribution of resources and developmental projects.

According to him, “there have been a fair spread of resources and regional offices. Feeder roads office is at Kete Krachi. Health directorate at Worawora. Agric Department at Nkwanta.  Education Service at Jasikan. NHIS at Kadjebi and Regional Coordinating Council and High court at Dambai. These will not have happened without the creation of the region.”

While thanking the President for the various developmental projects ongoing in the region, Nana Besemuna also appealed to him to expedite work on the construction of a bridge across the Oti River as captured in the national budget.

He also mentioned roads, acess to potable water and health facilities as some of the pressing needs of the region, which required urgent attention.

In a response, President Akufo-Addo assured that, he will not relent on his agenda of living a lasting legacy for the Oti Region, despite not having an MP on his side to be giving him constant reminders.

He said,he was determined to fulfill his promises, including the  bridge on river Oti and called for the support for the government to deliver.

“I have made the promise and I am going to see to it  that it is done.I will make sure it (the Bridge) is my legacy for this region. We will do it; the bridge. As well as the Technical University. We will ensure they are done.”

Water Resources Minister Inspects Projects in Volta

0

BY: KALD | Voltaonlinegh.com |

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah has embarked on an inspection tour of some projects under the ministry in the Volta region.

The tour, which started  on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 was for the Minister to ascertain the progress of work on two water projects, and a waste treatment plant in the region.

The water projects comprise, the third phase of the 5-district water supply project under the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) and the expansion of the Agordome Water Treatment facility under the Ghana Water Company in the South Tongu district.

The minister’s first stop was at Adidome in the Central Tongu District, where she inspected a Water treatment plant as part of the 5-districts water project. The solar powered facility produces over a million gallons of potable water daily.  She was conducted round the facility by officials of CWSA led by the Chief Executive, Ing. Dr. Worlanyo Siabi, as well as officials of Strabag AG from Vienna, Austria, who are working on the third phase of the water project.

Under the project, potable water is being extended from the Adidome treatment plant to communities in Adaklu, including the district capital, Waya at a cost of 11 million Euros.

It entails the laying of 110km transmission pipes from the Adidome treatment plant and the construction automated standpipes in the beneficiary communities.

According to the sector minister, “We are also adding 73 standpipes, and in the Adaklu district we will create 163 standpipes and transmission lines as well.”

She noted that, the project was scheduled to be completed in 24 months, adding that “we are holding the contractor’s feet to fire to make sure he finishes on time for His Excellency to commission the project”.

She reiterated that government was on course to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation by the year 2030.

This, she noted, was evident in the huge investment made by government in the water and sanitation sector across the country.

“ Last year, we were privileged to have His Excellency cut the sod for eight (8) major water projects totaling US$1.4million which will give 4.5 million people access to potable water,” she stated.

Madam Dapaah, who was accompanied by officials of her ministry, later visited Akrofu, in the Ho municipality, where an integrated waste treatment facility is being constructed by the Zoomlion Group.

Prince Amevi Writes: ‘The Lumor Effect At ECG-Volta’

0

BY: Prince Yao Amevi | Broadcast Journalist |

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” -Steve Jobs, Apple co-founder.

The above clearly identifies what the distinguishing factor is- Innovation. It might not emanate from bringing an entirely new process but changing the throughput definitely results into desirable outcomes.
It was a year ago this month (August 2020) that the Volta Regional PRO for ECG, Mr. Benjamin O. Antwi announced to major stakeholders in Volta Region that Mr. Emmanuel Lumor has been appointed as the General Manager(GM) of ECG Volta. I received the news wondering who Mr. Lumor was because the PRO said good things about his boss and as always I thought it was him trying to praise his new boss but a PURC official commented on the PURC platform that the new GM is a fine gentleman.
I decided to take a keen interest in activities of ECG under his leadership in Volta and Oti Regions. Fast forward the new General Manager settles and embarks on stakeholder engagement tours to engage stakeholders like traditional authorities, customers, media, security agencies, PURC and some opinion leaders. In all his engagements, one message stood out. He said,
“Together with my management team, we want to make ECG Volta, The Hub of Excellent
Customer Service so we are here to seek your support and advice to make this vision a reality” This bold pronouncement by the General Manager was welcomed with joy by all stakeholders though they all agreed it was ambitious but Mr. Lumor assured them it was possible.
At one of the engagements that I witnessed at the palace of Togbe Afede XIV in Ho, Mr. Lumor actually backed his words with action by giving an instant response to a complaint lodged by the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV. This led to words of commendation from all the traditional rulers present at the engagement and later a letter of commendation from the Asogli State to the General Manager and ECG Volta.
This sent a signal to all stakeholders that there is a new dawn in Volta Region but people were still skeptical about the attitude of ECG staff and Outages in the Region. A year after his appointment, it is evident for all to see that the outage situation in Volta Region has improved drastically. In fact I listened to a radio program with Mr. Lumor as the guest discussing ECG news and many customers who called during the phone in session commended the ECG Volta for their hard work and reiterated that the outage situation in Volta region has improved tremendously. The response time to faults by the ECG staff has improved. Hitherto, it takes longer hours for ECG staff to restore power supply or even attend to faults but the situation has improved since the arrival of Mr. Lumor.
Last year February, the ECG lost close to 1200 poles due to perennial bush fire which was worrying to me as I thought the ECG could have avoided this situation. On one of his radio programs, Mr. Lumor indicated that he intends to bring the number down drastically and my checks at the ECG revealed that the Volta Region lost 14 poles this year to perennial bush fires. During the Christmas break, most assembly members indicated they saw the ECG embarking on the creation of fire belts around their poles and I personally saw them do that with the help of some third parties. The momentum and zeal of the ECG during that period was very massive so I am not surprised that the company recorded lower numbers this year.
In Ho, one of the challenges that customers face has to do with challenge with their prepaid meters at night. At times customers had to sleep in the dark because their meter had a challenge and the ECG had closed. However, after a year in the Region, I have noticed that the ECG works till 10:00pm to resolve all challenges reported by customers on their prepaid meters. At times they go beyond that time to ensure all challenges are resolved to the delight of customers.
Personally, I had an encounter with him at Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and shared my
Experience during my meter acquisition period
(Link here) and the many positive responses I received publicly and privately generated some amount of energy within me to observe and see whether the actions (positive) of the New Regional General Manager was not going to be a nine day wonder. It never was since it looks more of the way of life of this leader.
I have moved in and out of ECG either to buy prepaid credit or complain about a problem. The big office complex which was constructed in 2014 welcomes you with mostly a lady presumably from an outsourced security service who either pays no attention to you or responds to your salutation. New comers into the edifice will be most confused finding their way round the many offices. Couldn’t there have been a trained receptionist who directs customers to their various solution points? I thought to myself anytime I visited. This prayer got answered when to my surprise I met a lady who welcomed me at the entrance.
Lady (Receptionist): Good afternoon Sir and welcome
Me: with shock on my face, afternoon
Lady (Receptionist): What can we help you with?
I told her my challenge and she directed me to the officer who could offer solution. What shocked me more was her question whether my problem was solved on my way out of the office. I have met receptionists but the lady at ECG, Ho stands out. She has a beautifully built counter all to herself which adds some formal setting to her department. My checks indicate that this innovation was by the same man in my fb post-The new General Manager.
Prior to this encounter I reported my faulty prepaid card in January 2021 and as always it was placed into small gadget by the engineer and I was asked to return home and get it slotted into my meter because the fault has been rectified. Two hours after I left the office, I received a call from someone who introduced himself as an engineer from ECG who was calling to check whether my meter was able to ‘pick’ the card as they indicated. Till now I cannot remember the answer I gave because I was dumbfounded by the gesture which I have never experienced with the power producer. A trace once more led me to the man in my Facebook post-The General Manager.
It is legitimate to condemn public sector workers who exhibit lackadaisical attitude towards service delivery but it will be an upfront on nation building if we do not celebrate those that innovate to the delight of customers.
Like the Toyota Production System (TPS) employed Kaizen to meet customer expectation, may you continually improve until all bottlenecks- especially meter contractors, new connection and fault reporting are finally eliminated to make the processes at Electricity Company of Ghana as customer friendly as ever
Let us also see sanctions on recalcitrant employees who continue to tarnish your hard work otherwise the one bad nut adage will wear flesh, until then keep improving keep innovating, Mr. Emmanuel Lumor.

MTN To Inject $200m in Network Infrastructure

BY: KALD | Voltaonlinegh.com |

Telecom giant, MTN Ghana is set to inject some 200 million dollars into its network infrastructure this year to meet the increasing demand for data in the country.

The amount, according to MTN Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Selorm Adadevoh, would be the teleco’s biggest capital investment in a single year, within the last 10 to 15 years.

This was made known at the  2021 Editors Forum for selected journalists in Southern Ghana, last Friday, as part of MTN’s 25th anniversary.

According to Mr. Adadevoh, the network has witnessed exponential growth in data and mobile money subscriptions since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, hence the need for the massive investment into the infrastructure to sustain the gains.

He also hinted of plans to  expand the 4G network coverage to all cell sites across the country, while working to pilot 5G network by 2023, as part of MTN’s sustainability strategy to keep ahead of competition and also remain relevant in the digital space.

The MTN Ghana boss further intimated that, the company was evolving to actively participate in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which he said would be largely driven by technology.

He said the company would continue to create innovative digital solutions to support businesses to thrive in the new digital economy envisaged under AfCFTA.

Touching on Mobile Money, Mr. Adadevoh announced plans to create a separate shareholding structure for the subsidiary business, to meet regulatory requirements.

He said 30 percent of the Mobile Money business will be domesticated, with the parent company, Scancom PLC holding 25 percent and the remaining five percent listed on the Stock Exchange.

The Editors Forum, brought together over 30 journalists in Accra, with several others joining virtually from Eastern, Volta and Oti Regions.
