Chief of Ho Dome and Warlord of Asogli State in the Volta Region, Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu XII, has called on politicians to move away from abandoning projects started by previous governments to completing them to serve the interest of the citizenry.
He decried the practice where various projects being undertaken across the country are stalled and entirely new ones started when different governments come to power, describing it as a disservice to the people and a drain on the state’s resources.
Togbe Howusu made the call when former President John Dramani Mahama who is contesting the Presidential primaries of the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday, called on him at the Asogli Palace in Ho to announce his presence in the constituency.
The visit to the Ho Central Constituency by Mr. Mahama formed part of his planned one week (which was cut short following the violence that characterised the polling process during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election) tour of the Volta Region to meet with delegates of the party and ask for their support to win the upcoming primaries in order to lead the party in the 2020 general elections.
Togbe Howusu XII in welcoming the NDC Presidential hopeful in the absence of the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, advised that whoever becomes elected as president of the nation has the responsibility to complete all abandoned projects.
He tasked the NDC to ensure it holds the primaries in a peaceful manner and called on candidates who will not emerge winners to rally behind whoever will be elected.
Meanwhile, Mr. John Mahama urged the delegates to vote for him by thumb-printing number 3 on the ballot paper in the upcoming primaries to lead the party to victory in the 2020 elections.
He appealed to them to disregard the claim that the “NDC is treating the Volta Region as a wife that has been locked and only visited when needed and so the wife should be open and allowed to see other men,” saying, now, “the man she has found has totally neglected her.”
The former President claimed projects started by his government had been abandoned by the current administration.
Citing the regional capital, he said the dual carriage road design which was expected to have included a bridge and an interchange at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) junction to avoid accidents on the road have been left out in the ongoing construction.
Mr. Mahama disclosed that the NDC was working on Prof Kwesi Botchey Committee’s report and will be coming back strong and better to win power from the New Patriotic Party and he is the best candidate to lead the party.
“The time to take power from the NPP is 2020 not 2024 that is why we have to go with someone who is known by the people and who can work to make life worth living for the citizens.”
