#COVID19: Ablakwa Contracts Local Dressmakers To Produce 20K Nose Masks for Constituents

BY: Lambert Atsivor | Voltaonlinegh.com |

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has initiated a move to supply some 20,000 nose masks to his constituents as part of his interventions to prevent the spread of the corona virus pandemic in his area.

As a result, the MP has mobilized and contracted some tailors and dressmakers across the constituency to produce the reusable nose masks for distribution.

He  announced the initiative in a Facebook post on Thursday.

“Latest COVID-19 Initiative: I have mobilized and contracted our local dressmakers and tailors in Juapong, Battor, Mepe and Aveyime to produce 20,000 face masks for free distribution to my beloved constituents. We are ensuring the 20,000 face mask production is done according to FDA guidelines and with the blessing of our District Health Directorate."

According to him the initiative, would ‘not only help prevent coronavirus from entering our constituency, we are also reviving the businesses of our local garment-makers who have taken a big hit due to the restrictions on social and religious gatherings and therefore not many are making new clothes.’

The MP has since begun the distribution of the first set of the consignment at Juapong, where over a thousand residents including the youth, market women, shop owners, welders, commercial drivers and the Juapong District Police Command received their share.

“Every town and village will see our free mask distribution caravan in the coming days,” the former Deputy Education Minister assured and commended the “talented, hardworking and efficient dressmakers and tailors for making this intervention a success.”

Other initiatives

Mr. Ablakwa had earlier supplied health facilities in the constituency with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other medical logistics required to combat the COVID-19 should it surface in the area.

He also facilitated the completion of an isolation and treatment centre at the Battor Catholic hospital and further announced an insurance package for all front line staff at the various health facilities.

As part of efforts to intensify public education on the pandemic, the MP re-branded his party vehicles and deployed them into the communities to educate the populace on COVID-19 preventive measures.
