The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akatsi South in the Volta Region, Leo Nelson Adzidoga has urged Chiefs in Avenor Traditional Area to avoid politics in their decision making to ensure development in peace in the area.
Addressing Chiefs and elders of Avenor during a media launch of 2018 Avenor Tutudoza (meaning development festival), Mr. Leo Nelson pleaded with the Chiefs to be non-partisan.
“Partisanship must be avoided in our drive towards the development of Avenor. When traditional rulers are seen to be indulging in politics, it will derail our efforts of reaching our objective.”
“A situation where Chiefs meddle in internal politics of political parties is a sure recipe for disaster” he said.
He blamed the current state of the area on chiefs’ involvement in politics, saying, “our society failed because of excessive partisanship. At this juncture of our journey our chiefs must remain absolutely aloof as far as politicking in Avenor is concerned.”
Torgbui Ahiamadorwu Godome III, Chairman of the Planning Committee also speaking at the event, called on the rulers and natives of Avenor to adhere to the call of the DCE.
He emphasized that Avenor citizens must commit to the development their area and the country.
“I have come to realise one thing, that no nation is really committed to the development of another nation. America was developed by Americans. Ghana can only be developed by Ghanaians so Avenor can only be developed by the people of Avenor”.
The Avenor Tutudoza celebration which comes off in November this year on the theme, “Leveraging our Heritage to Promote Development, Unity and Peace in Avenor”, is an initiative of chiefs of the area to bring development to the area which for a long time, has seen little development.
