The Overlord of Gbi Traditional Council, Togbega Gabusu VI has called on Muslim faithful to pray for the Eastern Corridor Road project which was awarded some years ago to be completed.

Works on the Eastern Corridor Road project stalled for lack of funds and non-payment to contractors resulting in the contractors abandoning the project.

The road which cuts across eight administrative districts of the Volta Region and is expected to reduce travelling time from the south to the north of the country is in deplorable state with the worse and dangerous portions between Hohoe and Jasikan, Jasikan and Kadjebi as well as areas around Kpassah and Damanko.

Ramadan Conference 2018

Togbega Gabusu asked that Muslims put the prayer for the completion of the road before Allah and added that he would readily visit any mosque to offer sacrifice of praise if that prayer request is answered.

He was speaking at a durbar last Saturday to climax the 24th annual national Ramadan Conference held at Hohoe, Volta Region from 27th-29thApril, 2018.

The conference brought together delegates of Muslim Umah from all ten regions of Ghana as part of the preparations to embark on their spiritual journey.

Togbega also spoke briefly on the theme of the Conference, The Need for Peace, The Role of the Muslim. He underscored the need for religious tolerance among Ghanaians for peace and development

“Human beings all over the world believe in a Supreme Being. It is required of each of us to live in peace with one another whether Muslims, Christians or Traditionalists.”

Delegates at the Conference

National and regional Imams, government officials, chiefs and other dignitaries who were also in attendance added their voice to the call for peace among Ghanaians.

Meanwhile, in a communique compiled by Chairman, Alhaji M. Ghazali Yakubu and Secretary, Hon Alhaji Baba N. Dawud of the sub-committee appointed by the delegates, and issued at the conference said it is expected that Muslims commence this year’s Ramadan fasting on Tuesday, May 15 or Wednesday, May 17.

“The first day for the sighting of the moon shall start on Monday, 14th day of May when Sha’ban shall be 29 days. If sighted, Tuesday, 15th day of May becomes the first day of Ramadan 2018. If not sighted, Tuesday, 15th May shall be the 30th day of Sha’ban then Wednesday, 16th day of May shall automatically be the first day of Ramadan 2018.”

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad.
