Following the successful 5th edition of the Volta Trade and Investment Fair in 2021, the 6th edition has been launched with a focus on “Leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for Local Economic Development.”
The event, launched in Ho on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, is being spearheaded by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and other private sector partners, with support from the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.
Scheduled for November 26 to December 10, 2023, the Volta Fair will once again create a dynamic platform for various stakeholders, including investors, businesses, diplomats, and more, to explore the investment potential of the region. With an expected turnout of over 4,000 visitors, the fair will serve as a nexus of ideas, innovation, and collaboration.
According to Mr. Dela Gadzanku, Regional Chairman of AGI in the Volta/Eastern/Oti regions, the fair will attract over 400 local and foreign exhibitors, underscoring the global interest in the economic opportunities the Volta Region has to offer.
Beyond the conventional trade aspects, Mr. Gadzanku disclosed that the 6th Volta Trade and Investment Fair will also encompass a series of engaging activities. These include the 2nd Volta Youth Summit, the maiden Volta Women Entrepreneurs Summit, the Sports Investment Summit, the Sports Heroes Award, the Creative Arts Summit, the AfCFTA Youth Innovation Contest, and Volta Tours, all curated to add depth and diversity to the fair’s offerings.
On his part, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, underscored the event’s significance in shedding light on the investment potential of the region. He urged local businesses to seize this opportunity and emphasized the crucial role of packaging in attracting attention. He further noted that the fair is not just about business transactions; it’s a celebration of the Volta Region’s rich cultural heritage and the stunning natural beauty that sets it apart.
Dr. Angela Lusigi, the UNDP Resident Representative in Ghana, who was the guest of honour, stated that AfCFTA presents the Volta region and the country at large with a unique opportunity to reshape its economic landscape, unlock the full potential of its resources, stimulate growth, and pave the way for a prosperous future.
Mr. Emmanuel Agbaxode, the Chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association for the Volta and Oti Regions, in a goodwill remark, assured the organizers of the media’s support in driving the needed publicity for the fair. He, however, encouraged the organizers to also establish mutually beneficial relationships with media houses in that regard.
There was a mini exhibition of indigenous products and services on the sideline of the launch held at the Residency in Ho.
