The Legal Resources Centre (LRC), a lead advocate for the Ghana Case Tracking System has organised a sensitization workshop for stakeholders including community monitoring groups in the Volta region to further deepen their participation in the initiative.
The workshop, which is supported by Commonwealth Human Rights initiative and Crime Check Foundation with funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was aimed at enchancing the effectiveness of the Case Tracking system in the Justice delivery chain in Ghana.
The Case Tracking System allows civil society organizations and the citizenry to monitor the progress of cases from beginning to end.
As part of efforts to improve justice delivery in the country, Government of Ghana in 2018 launched the electronic integrated criminal justice Case Tracking System, CTS to support key justice sector institutions in the justice delivery chain.
The six justice sector institutions include Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Attorney General’s Department, Legal Aid Commission, Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO, and Judicial Service.
Ghana’s Case Tracking System aims to promote the involvement of civil society organizations in advocacy for justice delivery in Ghana.
The Cass tracking system has been designed to digitally track criminal cases from inception to its conclusion and avoid the delay in accessing Justice delivery in the Country.
The System Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist of the Justice Sector Support Activity, Samuel Kombian in an interaction with the media, said the CTS is being implemented in 40 districts in seven regions namely the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Bono, Upper East, Volta and Western Regions.
He said one issue that accounted for delay in the justice delivery system has to do with the issue of missing docket but with the introduction of the electronic CTS and training of Community Case Tracking Groups to help monitor the CTS process thereby eliminating the matre of missing documents
The Justice Sector Support Activity therefore, seeks to strengthen the Ghana Case Tracking System through citizen engagement, empowerment and amplification of citizens’ voices to demand accountability and improved justice delivery services for the Ghanaian people.
