Wheta Chief Appeals for Water

Torgbui Ashiagbor IV, Dusifia of Wheta Traditional Area in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region has appealed to government to provide potable drinking water for his people.

He said Wheta is the oldest township in the Municipality yet continues to suffer from water problem which is a major concern to its people.

Torgbui made the appeal during question and answer segment at the 2018 launch of National Town Hall Meetings on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Dzesime Park, Dzodze.

The town hall meetings is jointly led by the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, and the Information Services Department to create a platform that will bring government closer to the people and to engender interactions between the people and government to propel development across the country.

It is expected to be held in all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) across the country where members of government will subject themselves to questions from people on how the resources they hold in trust are being spent.

Torgbui Ashiagbor expressed worry at the water problem which has persisted for ages, saying, he had it tough getting water for his bath to come for the launch of the programme.

In response, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Anthony Avorgbedor assured that Wheta will soon get good drinking water because the Assembly has begun taking steps to drill boreholes in those communities to ensure residents have respite from water problems.

The Volta Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa in an address at the inaugural ceremony said the launch of the town hall meetings is important and a sign that the President Nana Akufo-Addo is committed to addressing the needs of the citizenry.

Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development in a goodwill message on behalf of the Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama urged all to take keen interest and to actively participate in the programme to serve the intended purpose.

Meanwhile, the minister for Information, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid who launched the programme called on the citizenry to support the President and his government to deliver more life changing programmes and policies for improved lives.
