Volta Regional Netball Association was inaugurated yesterday, May 17, at the Physical Education Office in Ho.
The rather short event which had the Regional Sports Director of the National Sports Authority, Kwame Amponfi Jnr as the Guest of Honour was chaired by former NSA Sports Director, S. K Hlodze.
A seven-member interim executive of the Association took an oath to serve the region in accordance with the Constitution of the Ghana Netball Federation.
They are to organise a Congress within 6 months of their existence to elect into office, their leaders for the next 4 years. They are also to make sure that they get members from all 25 districts in the region, which will form a Consultative Congress at the end of their mandatory 6 months.
In his address, the Regional Sports Director, Kwame Amponfi Jnr congratulated the interim executives and encouraged them to work hard to develop the sport.
“I want to congratulate all of you on your inauguration and advise that you work as a team in achieving the development of netball in the region. As you are to serve the people, you must be first and foremost transparent and professional in all your dealings. I wish you all the best and would like to remind you of my support as well.”
The seven-member executive includes Regional P.E Coordinator, Mr B. B Dotse as the Chairman (Ho), ably assisted by Miss Patience Adzaku (Kpetoe). Secretary is Mr Jack Adamah (Sogakope), who doubles as the Organiser and his assistant is Miss Honorine Anorve (Jasikan). Miss Akorfa Adenyo (Nkwanta) is appointed the Protocol and Welfare officer. Mr G.A.K Dogbetor (Akatsi) is the Technical Instructor with Mr Selorm Dusu Jnr (Adidome) as the Regional Coordinator.
President of the Ghana Netball Federation, Reverend Emmanuel Dzanie Nikoi who gave the Interim executives the mandate to operate, also advised that the revival of Netball in the region must be key in their administration.
This new Executive, (since the previous administration grumbled without any mark after their initiation in 2004), would have a huge task as each member would have to develop the game in their zone. They are however immediately supposed to plan towards the forthcoming Sports Festival in Cape Coast.
