Mawuko Girls Senior High School handball team have failed to record a win in their three matches played in the ongoing Volta Regional Handball League in Ho after falling heavily to Ho Technical University (HTU) at the Ho Sports Stadium.

The week 8 fixture, played among 2 other matches on Saturday, March 23 saw the gala champions begin the game well but lacked concentration to outwit their opponents. HTU female side which registered for the league this season ensured Mawuko score half of total score at half time (14-7).

Mawuko had themselves to blame as they exhibited complacency, having played HTU earlier in a postponed game. HTU capitalised on the ill concentration of Mawuko to win the game 29-12.

In another encounter which was so delightful to watch, Unique Stars (US) narrowly walked away with 2 points and are now tied on top with their opponents, South Tongu Talents (STT) after a 19-18 result.

The energised match which saw goal hardly scored had US drawing first blood and leading 11-9 into the break. STT worked well on their tactics and bounced back strongly in the second half but were unable to win.

It was a hard fought victory for Unique Stars, who are now second of the Women table with 4 points and behind STT, also with 4 points after 3 matches. HTU and Sonrise follow with 2 points each, whereas Mawuko languish at the bottom with no point.

In the only Men game played, Mawuli continued to be win-less as they lost 27-45 to South Tongu Talents. An ever enterprising STT went all out to win the game without being complacent, learning from their previous matches. Mawuli, however did so well to keep their opponents on their toes as they never gave up till the blast of the whistle having trailed 12-24 at half time.

South Tongu Talents after the win remain 4th but with 4 points, same as 2nd and 3rd place HTU and Stars of Asha. While Unique Stars lie at the summit with 8 points, Sonrise are 5th with 2 points and Mawuli, bottom with no point.

The excitement of the league continues on March 30 at the Ho Sports Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Handball Association is still knocking on the doors of corporate Ghana for any form of sponsorship to keep bringing out the best in these players both in schools and in the communities.
