The Union of Trainee Nurses and Midwives, Ghana (UTNMG) has congratulated Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso in the Western North Region, on his nomination as Minister for Health designate.
Mr. Akandoh, who served as the Ranking Member on the Health Committee in the 8th Parliament, has been a strong advocate for healthcare development, and his experience has equipped him with the expertise to tackle the challenges facing Ghana’s healthcare system.
In a statement signed by Agbeti Robert Immortal, President, and Robert Kobla Alavi, General Secretary, the UTNMG expressed its gratitude to the President for the nomination, and pledged its support for Mr. Akandoh.
The statement also brought to the attention of the Minister-designate some pressing matters affecting trainee nurses and midwives, including the payment of allowances and the employment of colleagues who have completed their training.
The UTNMG urged Mr. Akandoh to prioritize the payment of allowances owed to trainees by the previous government, and to ensure the employment of the 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 batches of Nurses, Midwives and Psychiatric graduates.
The statement also appealed to the Minister-designate to address the challenges faced by trainees, including the lack of essential commodities and the sacking of trainees who owe fees.
The UTNMG expressed confidence in Mr. Akandoh’s ability to address the challenges facing the health sector, and pledged its support for his ministry.
