Military personnel and their families at the 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho are being tested for the coronavirus in line with an enhanced testing programme for targeted high risk groups.

The exercise being undertaken by a team from the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, according to the Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Bernard B. Pantoah would cover over 400 soldiers and their facilities in and outside the barracks.

He noted that, though the unit has not yet recorded any COVID-19 case, the Military High Command was being proactive to ensure the safety of the soldiers and their families against the pandemic.

“The fact that we have not recorded any case does not mean we should be complacent, so we are being proactive and a team has arrived from Accra to carry out the testing for us and our families.”

Lt. Col. Pantoah who was addressing the media during a disinfection exercise in the barracks by Zoomlion on Tuesday, said the regiment was ensuring strict adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols within the barracks and all other military detachments in the region.

He added that, the unit was also supporting the Police Service to enforce the various social distancing and safety protocol directives among the civil population.

Meanwhile, a total of 39 persons including security personnel in the region have tested positive to the virus following a mass testing of identified target groups along the country’s eastern frontier at Aflao in the Ketu South municipality.

The region’s total case count as at June 8, 2020 stood at 162 with 37 recoveries and three deaths.
