Police Denies Alleged Fuel Siphoning Scandal

BY: Kekeli Blamey I Voltaonlinegh.com |

The Oti Regional Police Command has refuted allegations leveled against them of draining off fuel from an accident car.

Their reaction came days after some residents in the Likpe Bakwa community raised alarms and circulated videos on social media accusing the police in the area of the alleged act.

According to a press statement signed by the Public Affairs Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), John Nchor, the police has stated that such accusation is false as the video and its commentator, Mr Godfred Coffie who is the Assemblyman of the area has misrepresented facts.

The police have also mentioned that, the role played by Mr. Coffie is calculated to ridicule and cast a slur on the hard earned image of the police service in the area.

However, the police in the statement explained that at about 8:00pm on January 14, 2021 a KIA Rhino truck with registration No. GT 3169-20 loaded with sawn wood with four other persons on board rammed into a ditch at Likpe Bakwa on their way to Accra from Likpe Bala.

They said on January 23, 2021, the attention of the police in the area was drawn on a leakage of fuel from a punched hole on the accident truck.

The police noted that they took the necessary precautions to drain the fuel from the tank of the truck to prevent any adverse situation, adding that this exercise was carried out before several inhabitants in the area.

They said Mr. Coffie, the assemblyman whose mother was buried that day appeared at the scene in the company of other mourners and took offence that the police did not inform him prior to the exercise, thus took video of the police action and circulated it on social media to malign the police service.

VoltaOnline.com has been notified that the Oti Regional Police have since invited Mr. Godfred Coffie for questioning.
