Integrated Rural Development Initiative (IRDI), a Ghana-based non-governmental organization (NGO) in the Volta Region with support from David and Carol Christensen Foundation from the United States of America has supported some junior high school (JHS) pupils in deprived communities in the region.

A delegation led by Mr. Charlse Agboklu, the Founder of IRDI, visited the schools and made donations of mathematical equipment including Mathematical sets, rules, graph books, drawing square and books to the pupils, mostly in JHS3  to prepare them towards their final examination.

The donation, worth GH₵2078.00, forms part of the NGO’s contribution towards the quality and compulsory basic school policy for every Ghanaian child.

Mr. Agboklu, speaking during the donation said the basic school is the fundamental institution for every scholar and needs to be given much attention to prepare its pupils for higher levels.

He described as unfortunate how people in rural areas struggle for quality and affordable basic education unlike their counterparts in the cities.

He noted that his NGO with its sponsors will go a long way to ensure quality basic education in deprived communities in the region and beyond through the provision of teaching and learning materials, uniforms and capacity building for teachers.

The beneficiary schools included Shia EP, Saviofe Agokpo EP and Kpoeta Akyem EP junior high schools.

Integrated Rural Development Initiative has over the years formed Eco clubs in schools in the region and carried out other interventions programmes such as literacy projects.

Mr. Charles Agboklu also appealed to government and philanthropists to support basic education in rural areas.
