Ho Technical University Promotes Volta Tourism

The Department of Marketing of Ho Technical University (HTU) has launched a documentary to promote tourism potentials in the Volta Region.

The Department which is under Business School of the University, documented the various tourist attraction sites in the region with special focus on tourism marketing and agro tourism.

The 53 minutes’ video had a glimpse of numerous Tourist sites in the 25 administrative territories of the region and their history. It also delved into the Ewe people and the other tribes in the region, the religion and culture of the indigenes of the Volta region.

Captured in the excited and colourful video was Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, Amedzofe’s Mount Gemi, Kalakpa Wildlife Reserve, Wli Water Falls, Ostrich Farm in Logba, the Atorko Slavery Market, Adaklu Mountain, Shiare Forest Reserve in Nkwanta, Fort Prinzenstein in Keta just to mention a few.

The video also covered several traditional festivals celebrated in the Region which displayed its rich culture and glory.

Some of the festivals featured include, the Hogbetsotso za of the Anlos, Yam Festival of Asogli State, and Agbamevorza of the people of Agotime, the home of the rich and pure Ewe Kente.

A representative from the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Sulley l lauded the students who came up with the concept and urged them to do more as there existed a lucrative venture in the tourism industry. He assured them that the ministry is working hard to provide infrastructure and equipment for schools running tourism programs like HTU.

He lamented that bad road network leading to the various sites in the region is hindering the ministry’s efforts to promote Tourism in the region, that notwithstanding a lot are being done to improve the tourist sites.

He encouraged the students and other interested organisations, film makers, photographers among others should come on board to help showcase the tourism potentials to the world to attract enough revenue for road maintenance.

Mr. Sulley also urged Ghanaians, schools, groups and corporate organisations to patronize made in Ghana and the tourist sites.

Dr. Gabriel Eshun, the National Patron of Ghana Association of Tourism Students speaking att he event advised that, creating social media platforms especially YouTube to share exclusive photos and videos will do well in attracting foreigners to patronize the region.

He also said Tourism will boom in the country if Ghanaians could learn international languages in addition to English.

The launching was themed “Destination Marketing: The Key to Unlock Ghana’s Tourism Potential.” The next episode of the documentary promises to feature more tourist sites and interesting discoveries in the region.
