BY: News Desk | Voltaonlinegh.com |

A one-day consultative forum has been held for stakeholders on Mobile App development in Ho by Digital Innovation company, Ho Node Hub.

The event held last Saturday, brought together young persons from all walks of life to share ideas on how to leverage mobile apps in boasting local economic activities and create sustainable jobs..

The stakeholder engagement which was held in partnership with the Ghana Tech Lab with support from the MasterCard Foundation’s Young African Works program and the World Bank, sought to among other things, inform and identify current market needs of industries, companies, job market and skills gaps; Which would help single out the needed intervention to help bridge the gap.

To this end,  the Head of ICT Directorate at the Ho Technical University and Director for Centre of Education Research and Training, Mr. Mawuli Agbenorto, has advised youth and stakeholders in the Digital Innovation space to conduct regular needs assessment for their communities in order to build innovative applications and solutions to cater to their immediate ecosystem.

Speaking at the forum, Mr. Agbenorto said, for digital talents to make significant impact, it was imperative for them to be solution oriented especially with a focus on providing solutions to businesses through innovative technology.

A report by Meltwater in 2014, indicated that 26 million people out of 93 million mobile phone owners come from Ghana with the country also recording the highest mobile phone penetration in Africa in 2013. Ghana is also reported to have  a high rate of consumers owning multiple phones.

As a result, more mobile phone service providers were in search of digital talents to produce consumer -informed applications to address their needs,  Mr. Agbenorto noted.

Speaking on the theme, ‘The role of Mobile Application in Transforming the Local economy for Job Creation and Economic Development’, he said the numerous problem-solving opportunities presented avenues for job creation and other related benefits.

He therefore called on them to develop an eye for problem identification while urging them to make the best use of resources available to them.

The Managing Director of Ho Node Hub, Mr. Courage Asase, said the engagement was significant since it needed to pull in more input from stakeholders in the ecosystem to chart the course of the base program and curriculum for the year.

He said the Hub over the years had cultivated fruitful relationships with various stakeholders including those from Academia, organisations, startups and other significant stakeholder to ensure a holistic contribution in its impact projects in the ecosystem.

The Hub having completed its base program in Digital Media Training is set to begin its next base program in Mobile Application Development, he added.

The Technical Lead of the Hub, Mr. Seth Megbetor in a report on the Hub’s base training program said the Hub, having already trained the youth in Digital Media, was set to begin a 6- week Mobile Application Development program for which reason the stakeholder engagement was deemed necessary.

He indicated that the Hub’s training programmes have nurtured and produced formidable youth-led startups which were already competing with other industry giants especially in the field of Tourism and in the Creative arena.
