The Ho Municipal Assembly has been officially upgraded to a metropolitan assembly, following executive approval granted by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
This development was announced in a statement issued by the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGRD) on Wednesday, December 4.
The statement revealed that three other municipalities have been elevated to metropolitan status, while some districts have been upgraded to municipalities, in line with the provisions of Act 936.
Sunyani, New Juaben, and Wa are the other municipalities that have been upgraded to metropolitan status, while Offinso North, Brim North, and Karaga have been promoted to municipal status.
The elevation of the Ho Municipal Assembly is a culmination of efforts by the government to upgrade the municipality, driven by its growing population and social infrastructure needs.
This development is a fulfillment of the assurances made by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Divine Bosson, under whose leadership, the municipality has witnessed some major development, including the construction of a modern office complex for the assembly. This new complex replaces the old Ho council premises, which had limited office space for staff for over 30 years.
With the municipality’s new metropolitan status, the zonal councils of the assembly will now operate as semi-autonomous Sub-metros. This means that they will have more autonomy to make decisions and take actions at the local level.
Furthermore, the assembly’s share of the District Assembly Common Fund will increase, providing more resources for development projects and initiatives.
