John-Peter Amewu, outgoing Hohoe MP and Minister for Railways Development, has attributed his loss in the Hohoe parliamentary elections to Ghana’s economic hardship.
In his first post election interview on VOV Radio 95.7fm, Mr. Amewu noted that the economic difficulties under the President Akufo-Addo-led NPP government influenced voters to seek change.
The minister, who won the Hohoe seat in 2020 as the sole NPP MP in the Volta Region, lost to the NDC’s Worlanyo Tsekpo in Saturday’s poll. Despite his loss, he expressed his commitment to developing Hohoe, even in his private life. He congratulated Tsekpo on his victory and pledged his support, stating that “Hohoe to the next level” aligns with his agenda.
Mr. Amewu emphasized the importance of competition in driving development, noting that other constituencies in the Volta Region are not developing enough due to a lack of competition. His dedication to Hohoe’s development is evident in initiatives like the Hohoe Sports Stadium and the Hohoe United Football Club.
He also used the opportunity thanked his constituents for their support and urged them to extend the same to the incoming MP.
