BY: News Desk | Voltaonlinegh.com |
The President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV has called on the country’s political actors to tone down the rising temperature in the political space as the December 2020 general elections approach.
He bemoaned the degeneration of  politicking in the country in recent times, and called for a truce across the divide in order to   preserve the peace and tranquility of the country, before, during and after the polls.
Togbe Tepre Hodo IV who is also the Paramount Chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area, was speaking at Ho on Tuesday, 27th October, 2020 during a courtesy call on the House by the Running Mate of the NDC, Professor  Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang.
The courtesy call on the Volta Regional House of Chiefs at Ho formed part of the NDC Running Mate’s three-day tour of the region. The visit is aimed among other things at interacting with all stakeholders including the Chiefs and Queens who are the custodians of the land.
The tour of the Professor is also to help secure more votes for the party from the region through education of the people on the provisions in the people’s manifesto which according to the party affect every single individual group of the country.
Welcoming Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang to the House, President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV reminded politicians that they cannot as leaders rule over dead people. According to him, it is their expectation as chiefs and people that the peace all Ghanaians have enjoyed over the years, would continue to exist before, during and after the December polls.
In her address to the House, the NDC Running Mate regretted that every single issue in the country has been politicized, saying the situation is not good enough for the country’s fledgling democracy.
According to Professor Opoku Agyemang, tolerance is the key to peace and development in every democratic dispensation, adding that all politicians should learn to embrace opposing views since politics is all about ideas. She gave the assurance that the NDC has a lot of good policies in its manifesto that would inure to the benefits of all Ghanaians.
She later addressed a huge crowd of market women and party supporters at the Ho Market Square in addition to having stakeholder engagement with members of teacher unions at the Veteran Association of Ghana (VAG) Hall at Ho. A similar engagement also took place earlier at Abutia Kisifli in the Ho West constituency.
The Running Mate also used the tour to formally present to the people some of the incumbent MPs and Parliamentary Candidates (PCs) who are running on the ticket of the party in the December polls. Notable among them included Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for North Tongu, Hon. Benjamin Komla Kpodo for Ho Central, Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzra for Ho West as well as Hon. James Klutse Avedzi for Ketu North. Professor Opoku Agyemang urged the good people of the region to return the former President and the NDC back to power so as to bring the country back on track.
The three-day tour will end on Thursday, 29th October, 2020 with scheduled visits to the North Dayi, Kpando, Afadzato South and Hohoe constituencies.
